General Hospital was chock-full of absolutely mesmerizing performances this past week, so choosing actors to highlight was tough. However, the scenes at the start of the week and of the week featuring the raw emotions flowing from the mother-daughter team of Brook Lynn and Lois have earned Amanda Setton and Rena Sofer our picks as Soap Central's performers of the week.
The shock of Brook Lynn's life

Brook Lynn could barely breathe as she absorbed the fact that Gio (Giovanni Mazza) was the son she gave up for adoption at birth. She thought about her baby every day and wondered how he was, never knowing she watched him grow every day as her cousin Camilla's son.
As Brook Lynn listened to Lois' tale and absorbed the enormity of what she was being told, Setton's face said everything. Her facial expressions ran the gamut from stunned, confused, and anguished to angry. As Lois just kept talking, we understood everything Brook Lynn was thinking before she let loose.
When she did let loose, Setton gave a tour de force performance that ripped our hearts out. She railed at her mother, was contrite with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), seemed desperate with Gio, and showed her scared little girl side with Ned (Wally Kurth). Setton's range through all of these emotionally draining scenes was nothing short of jaw-dropping.
General Hospital's Lois goes on defense

Rena Sofer won her first and only Daytime Emmy for playing Lois Cerullo 30 years ago this year in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. After her performance this week, she is a true contender for another one.
Sofer made us feel Lois' panic as she had to explain her decades of lies to her daughter. Lois' desperation as she felt Brook Lynn pulling away from her as she offered excuse after excuse for hiding Brook Lynn's baby in plain sight was on full display. After Brook Lynn left Lois in a puddle of tears in the Metro Court Gardens, Sofer had us feeling bad for Lois despite knowing she needed to take the brunt of the blame for the Gio mess.
Sofer also brought out Lois' Brooklyn temper as she fiercely defended herself to Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), while simultaneously putting her foot in her mouth. Lois' face said it all when she realized she'd accidentally accused Olivia of ruining her life when she chose to have Dante as a teenager.
In the end, Sofer and Setton had us glued to the screen all week, feeling the pain that years of secrets and lies can bring.
