What happened on General Hospital

Note: Midway through the episode, a news special report broke in for about 5 minutes.
While awaiting Maxie’s arrival at the Q mansion, Brook Lynn and Tracy discussed breaking the news to Maxie, saving Deception, and protecting Gio. Brook Lynn maintained her unwillingness to do anything to hurt the relationship between Gio and Sonny, but still wanted to protect Gio from Sonny’s enemies. Tracy felt they could only try their best to protect Gio, but he would not be completely safe until Sonny was dealt with once and for all.
Michael answered the door when Maxie arrived (The role of Maxie Jones is temporarily being played by Nicole Paggi). Maxie referred to herself as Daisy’s unofficial godmother, and Michael thanked her for planning the perfect christening, even though she was unable to be there. They took a few minutes to catch up.
After talking to Michael, Maxie met with Brook Lynn, who immediately let her know they had a big problem - Sonny’s second investment with Deception was made with “dirty” money. Maxie didn’t take it seriously at first, feeling Sonny would never be that sloppy. Brook Lynn shared the file from Natalia and broke the news of the death.
Maxie immediately thought they should go to the police, hand over all of their records, and let them go over them with a fine-toothed comb. She said her family needs Deception, and she had to save the company. Brook Lynn asked if they could wait to get subpoenaed. As Maxie was saying,g they had to get ahead of it, she went to grab the Deception file. Instead, she accidentally grabbed and opened the file that Brook Lynn had on Britt and Rocco.
When asked what it was and why she had it, Brook Lynn admitted it was supposed to be her revenge against Lulu. Brook Lynn felt justified in showing it to Rocco because “St. Lulu of Truth and Honesty would never keep secrets from her children.” When she sarcastically said she was sure Rocco already knew, Maxie questioned when Lulu would have told him, “during her four-year coma?”
Oversimplifying the situation, Brook Lynn rationalized Rocco was too old to be kept in the dark about Britt, basically his surrogate. Maxie argued it was Lulu Brook Lynn was mad at, but it would be Rocco she hurt. Brook Lynn said that’s why she didn’t tell him.
She went on to explain she had it set up for him to accidentally find the file, but she couldn’t do it because she loved Rocco and he’d already been through enough. She thought Lulu had it coming, but Rocco didn’t. Maxie was relieved and told Brook Lynn that piling on the hurt wouldn’t make anything any better. Angered, Brook Lynn reiterated she didn’t go through with it because she was better than Lulu.
At the cafe, Rocco and Danny were using their phones to search for information about Britt Westbourne, whom he now thinks may be his other mother. They asked Emma to join them to share what she knew about Britt Westbourne.
Emma wanted to know why they were asking her about The Britch, which was a nickname they were not aware of. She went on to refer to her as “The Britch, Britchy, Her Britchness, The Wicked Witch of the Westbourne” and said no one really liked her except her dad for a little while.
She said her dad and Britt dated briefly, but Britt couldn’t stand her. After her dad dumped Britt, Emma said she was pathetic enough to get herself pregnant to try to hold on to him. At that point, it dawned on Emma why they had asked her there.
She told Rocco she was just a kid when it all went down, and he should really talk to his mom and dad because their memories would be a whole lot better than hers. Danny thanked her for talking to them and apologized for ambushing her with everything. Before she left, she told Rocco there had to be a lot more to the situation than either of them knew about, and he owed it to himself to find out the truth.
At the Metro Court Pool, Willow approached Gio to offer her sympathies for what happened at the Nurse’s Ball, and for finding out the truth about his birth parents. She said there was nothing worse than being betrayed by someone who is supposed to love you.
Gio thanked her and offered his sympathies for everything she was going through as well. They agreed that you find out who you really can and cannot trust when your life gets turned upside down. Willow told him he could always count on anyone who stood by him and helped him through the hard times.
Trina and Kai were lounging by the pool, excited to get a chance to relax and see the 4th of July fireworks later. After talking to Gio, Willow went over to say hello to them. Kai figured Willow would be in D.C. with Drew, but she said he was going to be too busy working to celebrate the night. Kai figured everyone would be with their families and wondered with whom Drew was working.
Willow shared how impressed Drew was with Kai’s work and how he appreciated him going the extra mile. Unaware, Kai told Drew about her parents’ plan to find Jacinda. Trina still looked at Kai suspiciously and asked what the “extra mile” he went. Willow gushed on about Kai stepping in to save Drew from the disastrous press conference, how helpful he was, and how much Drew believed in his potential.
As soon as Willow walked off, Trina turned to Kai and said they needed to talk. He interrupted, “I know what you are going to say,” to which Trina responded, “Pro tip - when you think you know what a woman is about to say, let her say it.” Kai still interjected, saying he knew she wanted him to keep his distance from Drew. Trina said it wasn’t just Drew, but all of the Quartermaines were crazy and would make him go crazy if he got too close to him.
Just as she said that, Trina saw a worried Tracy walk up to talk to Gio. Kai said she didn’t have to worry about him, and his only interest was in politics and not any Quartermaine drama. Trina cautioned that the Quartermaines were always going to be battling something, and he did not want to get stuck in the middle of it. She also went on to share her continued worry about her parents while Kai maintained his secret.
They talked about people being committed and not giving up on each other. Trina said it was a risk because you’d have to trust someone and, once you let them in, they could disappoint you. Kai felt if the person was worth it, then the risk was worth it. He told Trina she was definitely worth it, and she said the same about him.
Tracy acknowledged Gio hadn’t answered her texts and was very resistant to talking with her, but she wanted to warn him that his life could be in danger. She updated him about the fire and that his Aunt Kristina was in the building at the time. She let him know Kristina was going to be fine, but she could have died just like his Uncle Michael could have, because of Sonny.
Emma arrived to sit with Tracy and Gio. Tracy went on to acknowledge that Gio was not going to like what she was about to say, but Sonny was a dangerous man, especially to family. She was worried he would be the next victim and pleaded with him to come home. She even offered him the Gatehouse or to move Joss and Trina’s out so he could have the apartment over the garage.
Gio said he had no intention of moving back and didn’t consider them family. She understood how badly he’d been hurt, but said hurt feelings weren’t worth risking his life. Emma interjected, saying that Gio was safe living with her and her grandmother, the police commissioner. But, Tracy dismissed her by saying Anna had done nothing to curb crime in Port Charles. Gio felt the offer wasn’t really about safety but Tracy’s attempt to get him to reject his grandfather.
Tracy saw that she went about conveying her worry in the wrong way and understood he was an adult she couldn’t force into doing anything. Before she left, she made a final request of Gio, which stunned both him and Emma. She asked him to go by Charlie’s Pub after work to see what was left after the fire. Then, go to the hospital to visit his Aunt Kristina, who was recovering, and finally, go to the cemetery to visit his Uncle Morgan’s gravesite. She told him Morgan was only 23 (a year older than him) when he was killed by a car bomb meant for his father.
Meanwhile, Willow was sitting on a chaise on the side of the far end of the pool, clearly waiting for something, as Michael and Wylie walked in for his pool lesson. Michael quickly spotted Willow, but didn’t let Wylie know. Wylie didn’t notice her until he finished his lesson and was drying off.
Wylie ran to hug Willow and wanted to stay to swim with his mommy, but Michael said they had to go. When Willow told Wylie the judge said they had to wait a little longer before they could spend time together, he said he hated that judge and missed her. She said she missed him and Amelia, too, and, hopefully, the judge would change her mind soon. After they walked off, Wylie told Michael he was tired of waiting for the stupid judge and wanted his mommy to come home so he could be with her now.
Laura visited Lulu at her house. Lulu said she was reporting on the fire at Charlie’s for the Llanview Banner and had questions. She said the people who were pro-Measure C felt the fire was proof of mob violence escalating again and thought Laura was ignoring it because of her longtime personal connection to Sonny.
Laura vehemently denied ignoring it, but felt there was a right way and a wrong way to investigate a fire, and she must do it the right way. Lulu said the “Yes on C” people also felt Laura was standing in the way of a measure the city desperately needed. Exasperated, Laura said she was the one who called for the measure in the first place. Lulu cautioned it might be time to disavow Sonny, but Laura felt it wouldn't do anything except tear their family apart if she did.
Lulu felt Laura could publicly disavow Sonny, but it didn’t have to be for real. Laura explained how and why that wouldn’t work. Not only did she not want to compromise her own morals, she could not help but feel there was more to the situation.
Lulu said she did not want Laura to give up her principles and wanted her to beat Ezra Boyle, but she was falling behind in the polling. They were confused and worried about how someone like Boyle could be gaining favor. Lulu felt Laura would need to remain mayor if she wanted to save Port Charles, and questioned how far she would be willing to go to make that happen.
Lulu felt something would have to change if Laura wanted to beat Boyle and continue doing great things for Port Charles. Laura confided in what Sonny told her about Sidwell bringing violence to the city. She remained strong in her convictions not to yield to Sidwell’s scare tactics, but Lulu warned that the public would scare more easily, and Boyle was in Sidwell’s pocket. Laura shared how careful she had to be with her decisions so Port Charles wouldn’t go from a bad situation to one way worse.
Rocco got home from the cafe. Lulu was happy he was home and wanted to tell him something, but was shocked when he asked her to tell him about Britt Westbourne instead.
As Sonny seems to be on everyone’s minds, ADA Turner met with him in the interrogation room at the PCPD. Sonny didn’t intend to say a word without Diane. Turner told him the procedures allow her to hold him for 24 hours, but Sonny knew she couldn’t deny letting him see his lawyer.
Reminding Sonny that anything he said without his lawyer could be considered inadmissible and not held against him, she encouraged him to see it as the best opportunity to tell her what happened with Natalia. Sonny questioned why he should trust her.
Turner detailed her plea deal agreement with Natalia. Sonny said the truth was, Turner hauled in Natalia on trumped-up charges, leveraged it against her, and then persuaded her to give information which only MIGHT have incriminated him.
Sonny hit a nerve when he told Turner she thought she was the one who got Natalia killed. He went on to say Natalia was a strong person, but you never know what drives a person on the inside to do what they did. Instead of accusing Turner, he said she was just doing her job, and how Natalia dealt with it was on Natalia, not her. Not able to handle any more, Turner said, “No further questions,” and left.
Laura arrived and asked to see Sonny. She wanted details about what Sonny actually knows about Sidwell and his plans.
At Sonny’s house, Jason was on the phone with Diane, who told him they wouldn’t let her see Sonny. Dante arrived to let Jason know the PCPD wouldn’t let Dante talk to Sonny, and Selina Wu was their primary suspect for starting the fire at Charlie’s.
Dante went on to share that they identified two suspects who were both Selina’s guys. He also knew Selina booked a flight to Singapore but didn’t know whether or not she got on the plane. Jason questioned why Dante bothered coming to him if they thought they had it all figured out. Being direct, Dante said he didn’t know if he should bother looking for the guys and Selina, or if they were already buried in the woods somewhere.
Jason told him he didn’t even know the people involved were Selina’s men, but still didn’t believe Selina would risk crossing Sonny and knew she would not target Kristina. They both surmised Sidwell set Selina up.
In the end, they acknowledged how their relationship has changed over the years and was more intertwined than it used to be. Jason told Dante he didn’t want any trouble with him, and he didn’t want to take any action that involved him. Dante remained suspicious that Jason and Sonny would continue to seek retaliation. After Dante left, Jason received a call. He asked if the caller had eyes on someone (an unidentified individual) and told them he would let them know when Sonny was ready to move.
