What happened on General Hospital

At the church, Michael concluded the memorial by inviting everyone to help remember and celebrate Monica by joining them back at Monica’s house. The reverent moment was interrupted when Drew threw the doors open to the chapel and stared down Michael and others as if he was ready for a fight.
Drew went to the front of the sanctuary and announced, “My name is Drew Quartermaine, and I am here to honor my mother, Monica.” Jason moved toward Drew, but Tracy stopped him, looked at Drew, and said, “Allow me to fact-check.” She told him his name was Drew Cain, he was in no way related to Monica, and he was in no way invited to their gathering. He claimed Monica called him her son, and therefore, had every right to say goodbye to her.
Tracy felt Drew forfeited that right when he broke Monica’s heart and proceeded to wheel him out of the chapel area into the foyer, where she told him his presence was neither required nor desired and, in fact, was detested. Leaving Drew there, she closed the door and uttered aloud, “Wow, that felt good.” Everyone stared, amused by seeing Tracy act like herself by putting Drew in his place.
Despite her reluctance, Tracy realized it was time she spoke about Monica. With silent encouragement from Jason and Michael, she made her way to the podium. Tracy talked honestly about what she thought of Monica after she married Alan and how she underestimated her. “Somewhere between, during, or because of our epic battles, I grew to respect her. In fact, that respect grew to love”, she said.
Tracy expressed that, in the 45 years they were family, she grew to understand that Monica was the best of them and felt the Quartermaine family wouldn’t be who they were without her. She talked of the many contentious moments she shared with Monica, but said “insults were their love language” and how they knew they cared.
Saying she never for a moment thought she’d have to live her life without Monica, Tracy lamented that she would now have to find her way in the world without her. “My brother made her my sister-in-law,” she said, “but she became my sister.”
Pointing at the picture of Monica, Tracy said, “Don’t you worry, that house is yours. Alan gave it to you. As long as I’m alive. I promise you, it will stay that way.” Everyone laughed through their tears.
After the memorial, everyone went back to the Quartermaine mansion. Family and friends gathered throughout parts of the house to comfort and console each other as they remembered Monica. In the foyer, Laura spoke with Tracy. In addition to giving her condolences, she commended her for expelling Drew expeditiously.
In the kitchen, Dante talked with Olivia, who was preparing some of Monica’s favorite hors d'oeuvres for everyone. She thought it was a good sign that Gio went to the memorial and wanted Dante to bring out the bacon-wrapped dates because those were Gio’s favorite. When he got to the living room, Dante talked with Brook Lynn about Lois finding Tracy in Atlantic City. They were both happy that Gio came to the service and were hopeful that his anger would begin to subside.
On the patio, Lulu went to comfort Jason. She assured him that, even in the times he wasn’t physically there, Monica made sure his presence was felt. She said when she lived there with her dad, Luke, she couldn’t recall a day going by where Monica didn’t mention him.
Back in the kitchen, Michael thanked Chase and Dante for being there. They talked about how welcoming Monica was to both of them. Michael was grateful that they put the shooting investigation on the back burner for the moment. Dante said they were family, which was all that mattered for the day.
Laura found Lulu on the patio. Acknowledging that, besides family, her mom had known Monica the longest, she wanted to be sure she was doing okay. Laura said Monica was the type of person you could depend on when things got tough, and things could definitely get tough. Laura cried for a moment, and they hugged.
Stella and Tracy caught up in the foyer. Stella asked her to be truthful about how she was holding up. Tracy said it was hard losing so many people she loved. Stella encouraged her to see she was surrounded by a big ‘ol crazy family who adored her. As Gio walked in the door, she remarked, “A family that keeps growing by the minute.”
Gio and Tracy offered each other condolences and talked about Monica for a moment. Tracy told him that Monica replayed his Nurses’ Ball performance at least 100 times. She said that she and Monica didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot, but they were of one mind when it came to him. Tracy let him know how grateful she was to have him there, and he returned the sentiment. He liked getting to see a different side of the family. Gio said that watching them support each other made him proud to be a part of the family and proud to be her great-grandson, which made Tracy emotional.
Dante came out to the living room with another tray of hors d’oeuvres and saw Gio. He was going to attempt to talk with him, but Ned walked by Gio first. Ned was happy to see Gio and let him know he would love the chance to connect whenever he was ready. They bonded for a moment as they talked about being musicians. Ned complimented Gio’s performance at the Nurses’ Ball and his exceptional talent. He said the talent, passion, and skill Gio had couldn’t be taught, but it was a part of who he was. Before walking off, he leaned in and told Gio not to say anything to Brook Lynn, but it was pretty obvious that he got his musical talent from him, which made them both laugh.
Portia asked Elizabeth how Jake was doing. Elizabeth said he was devastated. She also mentioned that Jake was relieved that kids were not going to be at the service because it made him feel less guilty about not being able to be there. In the foyer, Tracy sat alone for a moment before she snuck out.
Later, in the kitchen, Ned regaled Gio, Olivia, Michael, and Jason with old stories of Tracy and Monica. Gio loved hearing all of the stories. Jason said Monica told him a story recently that he had never heard before. (The story was not shared on screen.)
Brook Lynn asked everyone in the living room if they’d seen Tracy because she couldn’t find her. Ned and Olivia had a moment alone in the kitchen. He thanked her for everything she did to make the day special. Olivia felt a kinship with Monica, having married into the Quartermaines like she had.
Before Gio left, he stopped to talk to Brook Lynn. He said he wanted to come to pay his respects to Monica. She let him know how much Monica loved having him live there and how she loved to listen to him practice the violin. He thanked her for telling him that and left.
Talking to Michael, Felicia, and Lulu, Lucy asked about the will and who was going to get the house, because if they wanted to sell, the market was hot. Felicia pulled her away to leave before she could go further. Lulu told Michael she hadn’t seen Tracy in a while and wanted to say goodbye to her. Jason was out front when Elizabeth walked out to leave. He thanked her for being there, and she gave him a big hug.
After the guests left, Ned, Olivia, Brook Lynn, Chase, Michael, and Jason gathered in the living room. They sat to recap the day and have a final toast to Monica. Ned raised his glass and said, “To Monica…a woman who fought for this family until her last breath. And, as mother said, she wasn’t just one of us. Monica was the best of us.” Jason quietly walked out and halfway up the stairs. Looking up toward Monica’s room, he said, “I once told you that you never lost me. I won’t lose you either. You will always be my mom. I love you.”
There was a beautiful montage of clips of Monica throughout the years. As the montage ended, Laura, Elizabeth, Portia, and Stella were shown gathered in front of the memorial wall at the hospital where Monica’s picture now hung. Tracy walked into the family crypt to find a woman unknown to her standing there.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Martin was surprised to find Drew back in his room so soon. Drew told him that Tracy rolled him out of the church, and no one even tried to stop her. He said it wasn’t right, and there was a time when Monica really loved him, but the Quartermaines see him as the enemy.
Martin reminded him that he had done a lot of things, and they were angry about the role he played in breaking up Michael and Willow. Drew maintained that the Quartermaines lived for a good fight, but they always came together when it counted because family always came first. It was clearer to him than it had ever been that he wasn’t a Quartermaine and never would be.
Martin offered comfort to Drew by saying the Quartermaines couldn’t take away the fact that he and Monica were close once. Bitterly, Drew said Michael was the golden boy and always had been. He apparently thought Monica loved him enough to get past the “whole Michael/Willow situation.”
Drew said the only reason he hadn’t implicated Michael in his shooting was because he was protecting Monica, but now considered all bets off. After admitting he didn’t actually remember “a damn thing” about the shooting, Martin told him to take a deep breath before deciding to perjure himself to get revenge. Indignant, Drew said perjuring himself was the least of what he would do and planned to stop at nothing to make Michael pay for what he’d taken from him.
Later, Drew, still bubbling with anger, continued with his resolve to get Michael sent back to prison and relished the fact that Jason would hate it. Martin felt Drew was missing the mark and that Tracy deserved to be the target of his fury more than Michael did. Drew said she “orchestrated my exile” and turned the whole family against him, and therefore deserved a world of pain. But, he said, Michael “out destroyed” them all, and with one phone call, he could take them all down.
Martin said Tracy would only suffer if the Quartermaine legacy crumbled. Drew felt she deserved a lot worse than that, though. Martin, acting a bit like he knew something, said he had a feeling someday Tracy would get it in the end. “You know what they say, in the end, karma catches up with all of us”, Martin said. Drew declared he would have a front row seat when karma caught up with the Quartermaines.
