Greetings GH Nation! I’m Roger (sometimes aka Re-Gor for my other projects), and I’ll be taking over the General Hospital Best of the Week. I just came off a long run on the Days of our Lives 2 Scoops, and while I had a blast doing that, they needed to change things up, so here I am! I’ve been watching since 1981, and I have a lot of opinions and observations that I can’t wait to share with you all!
GH has been particularly thrilling these past few weeks, with my wife and I on the edge of our seats daily, looking forward to the next day’s episodes, and trying to guess what might happen next! With the mysterious returns of Nathan and Britt from the dead, anything could happen, even a possible return of the dastardly Cesar Faison! Anyway, let’s get to what I think are the best things from the show this week. You’ll notice I’ve changed up the sections to make it more in line with my…er…eccentric ways of thinking!
Spotlight Scenes

This section will highlight any standout scenes from the week (like if someone smacks another character in the head or something).
This week, that nasty old Drew gloated as he told Ned that he now owned all of the Quartermaines’ prized possessions. This caused Ned to have a heart attack. Drew, of course, said, “That’s right out of the Quartermaine playbook!” He then grumbled that Edward did a better job and walked away as Ned collapsed to the ground. A major, pivotal scene that will forever shape how the Q’s view Drew. Hopefully, Ned will survive and later get revenge. Drew has yet to be on the receiving end of Ned’s payback, and it’s high time the elder Q stepped forward and put an end to Drew once and for all. A showdown between Ned and Drew would be supremely satisfying, and while Ned’s not a physical fighter, his scheming skills should come in handy to take down Congressman Cutthroat in a surprising manner.
Verbal Knockouts

Here, I’ll shed light on some of the great dialogue from the week.
Early in the week, Drew barged into Nina’s office and bullied Jacinda. When Nina came out of her office, Jacinda told her that he was there to see her…without an appointment. Nina responded, “Yeah, he does that. Usually, you’ll hear roaring wind and howling wolves right before he arrives.”
Chase and Brook Lynn were talking about whether Michael framed Willow for Drew’s shooting. BLQ stated, “I think that Drew could rile the Dalai Lama up into a homicidal rage.” That’s right, folks, can you see the teaser video now? “The Dalai Lama’s in Port Charles and he’s pissed!” I burst out into laughter when she said that.
Chase also hilariously told Brook Lynn, “You Quartermaines are ridiculously stubborn!” Truer words were never spoken.
Wardrobe MVPs

Fashion is often a part of daytime television, and here I’ll point out any outfits that I think stood out in the week.
This week’s best outfit goes to Nina! Nina wore a dark, silky printed blouse with a subtle violet-and-midnight pattern, tucked into high-shine metallic gold pants with a statement belt — the whole look landing somewhere between luxe boardroom drama and nightclub confidence.
It’s the kind of bold, high-octane glam that usually lives in Ava Jerome’s closet, not Nina’s — Ava would throw that outfit on without blinking and strut through the Metro Court like it’s her personal runway.
Pop Culture Shoutouts

You can’t have good writing without snappy dialogue and pop culture references. I’ll point out some of these for ya in case you missed them!
Dante was bringing Nathan up to speed on his new partner, Chase. He explained that Chase had a blind spot when it came to his ex-wife, Willow, who he believes is innocent of shooting Drew. Dante then said, “He’s a great guy. Questionable opinions on baseball, for sure.” Nathan got worried, shook his head, and asked, “He’s not a Sox fan, is he?” Dante responded, “I can’t even talk about it.” Of course, when Chase first joined the PCPD as Dante’s partner, he placed some Red Sox memorabilia on his desk, which clashed with Dante’s Yankees stuff. It was a nice callback to the first time they became partners. Those Yankees fans can get rather surly at times, though, so Chase had better watch his step with Nathan.
Best Camera Moment

Here, I’ll point out a good shot or two from the fine folks who work the cameras on the show. Sometimes, characters will have good reactions, which I’ll point out as well.
This week, Gio was telling Emma that Ned told him, “Tracy’s at a spaaaaa…” he hung on the word “spa” and continued, “...in France.” He made a hilarious face as if to mock the spa for being hoity-toity. As if he was about to say, “Oh oh, no more buttered scones for me, mater. I’m off to play the grand piano,” in an upper-crust, British-y accent.
Observations, Complaints & Unhinged Theories

All right, I thought this was hilarious. Usually, when watching the show, I holler my notes into my phone’s note app. And this was one of them: “Felicia nose Porsche is lying.” What I actually said was, “Felicia knows Portia is lying.” You gotta love talk-to-text technology.
Anyway, I thought Felicia was very crafty in getting Portia to tell her where she was on the night of Drew’s shooting. She didn’t ask Portia outright where she was. That would have made the co-chief of staff realize she was under scrutiny for the shooting. Rather, she asked if Portia knew where Willow was that night. That, in turn, caused Portia to think about where she was. She claimed to have been in her office because she was on call, and had no idea where Willow was located then. Felicia followed that up, since she has access to the hospital computers, and learned that Portia’s on-call status ended at 8 pm…meaning, she has no alibi for when Drew was shot!
There was a very cool moment when Gio was applying CPR to Ned, and Britt walked out of Bobbie’s. She saw what was going on, yelled at everyone to stand back, and jumped in to save Ned’s life. This shows that whatever she’s caught up in with the villains, she’s not a willing participant. As Jason has observed, Britt’s a good person at heart and is beholden to whoever’s supplying her with her Huntington’s meds.
If you look at Dalton’s lab, you’ll notice there’s nothing about cold fusion and everything about DNA. So when Dalton lost his cool when he caught Rocco, it’s clear that whatever’s going on there is nefarious. But the way he was manhandling Rocco was all sorts of wrong, and if Dante doesn’t give the bad ol’ professor a piece of his mind, Jason should.
And if anyone needs a slap in the face, it’s that slimy Ezra Boyle. He’s just the lowest of the low, reveling in other people’s pain.
Things I Yelled at the TV

I’ll be honest, my wife yelled at the TV on this one. When Chase visited Willow in prison, they held hands (which, first of all, shame on Chase!), and you could see her nails. I didn’t notice anything, but my wife, who gets hers done regularly, noticed that Willow’s nails needed a “fill.” For those who don’t know (like me), it means Willow’s acrylic or gel nails have grown out enough to show a visible gap at the cuticle, signaling it’s time to refill and rebalance them so they look fresh again.
I took this to be a cool touch if it was done on purpose. A jailed Willow wouldn’t be able to get her fingernails maintained (obviously), and I wondered if that was done on purpose. Meaning, Katelyn MacMullen knew that her character would be in prison, so she let her nails grow to the point where they needed a fill, to illustrate that she’d been in prison for a while. If that was done on purpose, then whoever’s idea it was should get credit for a nice little detail.
EPILOGUE
Thanks for joining me on my first GH Weekly Best Of, folks!! I’m looking forward to doing them regularly as General Hospital is my favorite TV show and has been since I was 11 years old! I’m extremely interested in seeing how everything plays out with the bad guys and their dastardly schemes. Is Faison back, but somehow in Nathan’s mind? (Memory mapping is a real thing! Look it up!) The fact that Emma believed Dalton was experimenting on animals, and the WSB thinks he’s working on cold fusion, shows that no one really knows what he’s up to. But with Sidwell backing him and Britt now his boss (although probably against her will), the intrigue deepens, and that’s why I love this show! Gloria Monty pioneered action, adventure, intrigue, and espionage on daytime TV with GH, and I’m glad the show is embracing those fun stories once again!
General Hospital can be seen weekdays on ABC and Hulu
