On General Hospital, Drew Quartermaine may be a villain people love to hate, turning into a morally challenged congressman who is manipulating a much younger woman into being in love with him.
But his portrayer, Cameron Mathison, continues to do good things offscreen and help people when he’s not juggling General Hospital, his movie acting, and game-show hosting.
Mathison’s latest charity project is supporting Project Angel Food, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers healthy meals to people impacted by serious illness.

While Drew is causing trouble on General Hospital, his portrayer supports charities
Mathison is leading a live telethon to support the organization. The show, called "Lead with Love: LA Strong Special" will air on KTLA-TV in Los Angeles 7 p.m. Saturday, June 28.
The General Hospital star appeared on KTLA’s morning news show June 26 to promote the organization, and he gave some insight as to how he juggles his onscreen jobs and also how he is handling the loss of his Altadena home in the January wildfires.
Mathison will be answering phones during the event to take donations. Also during the telethon, Mathison is leading taped segments where he tells stories about some of the people helped by Project Angel Food.
“This special is a beautiful opportunity,” he said on KTLA. “They’re out there delivering medically tailored meals to so many people who are ill and struggling. It’s just stories of resilience, ways to get through, and people out there doing what they need to do with the help of Project Angel Food and the help of others.”
He said the organization continued to help people after they were displaced by the wildfires. Mathison shared that dealing with the loss of his home and the displacement of his family is an ongoing process.
“It’s been more emotionally, logistically, financially challenging thing than you can imagine unless you go through it,” he said. “I’m a positive, resilient guy. This is a unique and challenging loss for myself and thousands of others, which is what this special is all about.” In March, he was also the star of a charity event for Habitat for Humanity in Los Angeles,
When he’s not on General Hospital making many citizens of Port Charles angry at Drew, Mathison is starring in family-friendly films on the Great American Family channel and hosting the game show Beat the Bridge.
When asked whether he prefers acting on General Hospital or hosting, Mathison said he couldn’t choose. “I really do like them both,” he said. “They both serve very very different creative energies for me. I enjoy them both. I’m so lucky I’m able to do both. They’re very different but they have a lot of similarities. I can’t imagine doing one and not the other.”
