General Hospital's closure cleanup was a long time coming

General Hospital had us baffled since May with the pace it had taken with the Gio parental reveal fallout. After an incredible buildup with this story in late winter and throughout the spring, GH decided to backburner it after the epic Nurses' Ball reveal as Gio smashed his violin on stage and let Brook Lynn and Dante know he was their son. Last week, the show finally took the right steps to give us what we have wanted out of this story.

Disappearing Lois

Since Lois was such an integral part of this story, the soap was stuck when Rena Sofer chose to move to New York and only appear on the show sporadically. That meant the character who set this whole 22-year secret had to be ushered off-screen soon after the reveal took place. While it made sense for Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) to be angry and banish her mother back to Bensonhurst, it took too long for Lois to finally plead her case to Gio (Giovanni Mazza).

Thankfully, Sofer was able to work a few days recently and give the audience the closure they needed as both Gio and Brook Lynn softened toward Lois, so this story can finally move forward.

General Hospital's necessary scenes

The moments last week when both Gio and Brook Lynn chose to face Lois rather than ignore her requests to talk were desperately needed and proved that time can often heal wounds. It turned out that time was all these two characters needed to put things in perspective and understand that people make mistakes. And sometimes you can't be in close proximity to the person you are angry with to see that.

Despite Gio making amends with Lois and telling her that he no longer resented Brook Lynn and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), he admitted that he wasn't sure how to forge a relationship with them or if he even wanted to. Those scenes were raw and honest, and we understood Gio's trepidation.

However, the scenes between Brook Lynn and Lois were the real tear-jerkers. Brook Lynn started out cold, but finally had to break down and admit that she really missed her mom. Lois then embarked on an international concert tour with Blaze, but at least General Hospital finally gave us the closure we had been looking for...with a door wide open for a return.
