General Hospital did very well on July 9 and 10, 2025, when the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences announced its nominees for the 52nd annual Daytime Emmys. This year’s ceremony is set for October 17 in Pasadena, California.
Amongst the recognitions, General Hospital received 16 nominations for writing, directing, technical, acting, and Outstanding Drama Series.
The loss of baby Irene led to dramatic fallout on General Hospital

Tajh Bellow received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Dr. TJ Ashford. Kate Mansi earned a nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Kristina Corinthos-Davis.
Mansi posted on her Instagram a picture of flowers and a card from her new husband Matt McInnis, captioning the post, “Thank you @generalhospitalabc for the story. Thank you husband for the hype. Congrats to all the incredibly strong women in my category.”
It is Mansi's third Daytime Emmy nomination, first for General Hospital. She won the Supporting Actress award in 2017 for playing Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives, and was also nominated for that role in 2019.
Bellow celebrated his first nomination, captioning an Instagram post, “YES! I’m deeply honored to be named a 2025 Daytime Emmy nominee, alongside such an inspiring group of storytellers. Thank you @theemmys.tv for this incredible recognition, and my heartfelt thanks to the brilliant @generalhospitalabc writers for crafting the space that allows me to do this work that I love. Grateful beyond words. See you at the Emmys!” Bellow has not been on General Hospital since December after being moved to recurring status.
Both received lots of congratulatory messages from fans and fellow actors. Tanisha Harper, who plays TJ’s mother Jordan Ashford, wrote, “This!!! 🙌🏾 proud of my tv son!”
Bellow and Mansi’s stories were often intertwined on General Hospital throughout 2024, which was the eligibility period for this round of the Daytime Emmys.
Mansi’s Kristina went through a lot of misery on General Hospital, losing the baby she was carrying as a surrogate for Bellow’s TJ and his domestic partner, her sister Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos). Later in the year, Molly and Kristina’s sister Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) died after being murdered by Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober).
The fallout from the dual tragedies led to Molly and TJ drifting apart and eventually breaking up after being together since they were teenagers. When Kristina agreed to become a surrogate for TJ and Molly, none of them knew the catastrophes and tragedies that would follow.
In her ninth month of pregnancy, Kristina lost the baby when she fell several stories from a window in Ava Jerome’s (Maura West) suite during an argument between them, nearly dying herself. The fallout led to a host of dramatic and emotional scenes in 2024 for Mansi, Bellow, and Vaganos as their characters dealt with the loss of baby Irene (or Adela, as Kristina named her, which created a lot of tension by itself).
Vaganos, who took over the role of Molly in 2023, had several memorable performances on General Hospital in 2024 and has been widely regarded as an Emmy nomination snub for her work in these stories.

Before the accident, there were already strains in Molly and TJ’s relationship as they argued over whether to trust Kristina to be responsible while she was pregnant. They were also worried whether or not Kristina would give the baby to them after the birth — fears that were realized as Kristina changed her mind as she was reaching the final stages of her pregnancy.
At the time, Kristina witnessed her father, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), beating up Dex Heller (Evan Hofer). Seeing that not only traumatized her but put her in the crosshairs of the PCPD and FBI agent John Cates (Adam J. Harrington). As well as Ava Jerome, who had her subpoenaed to testify at her custody hearing against Sonny for their daughter, Avery (Ava and Grace Scarola).
The thought of testifying against her father added to her stress in the latter stages of her pregnancy, leading to a lot of tense scenes on General Hospital.
Kristina went to Ava’s suite to convince her to pull the subpoena. They argued and she tripped on Jagger’s duffel bag, out of the window and into the Metro Court pool. Kristina then had to deal with the death of the baby she had carried for nearly nine months, and Mansi made us feel any mother’s pain while sobbing in her hospital bed and being comforted by her family.
While Kristina was quick to blame Ava for the encounter, Molly was angry with her sister for going to Ava’s suite in the first place.
At Irene’s funeral, Molly laid into Kristina. Vaganos, giving one of her own Emmy-worthy performances, had the papers which proved that Kristina was going to file for custody of the baby after her birth. Kristina went into meltdown mode, collapsing into Alexis’s arms on the ground and sobbing.

After Sam’s death, Kristina went to the General Hospital chapel and yelled at God before her brother Michael (then-Chad Duell) showed up to comfort her.
Kristina and Molly had heartbreaking scenes with their mother Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) after Sam’s death, as they struggled to get along for her sake. Grahn was nominated for Lead Actress this year, no doubt for the way she showed Alexis’s grief at losing her eldest daughter.
The cracks in Molly and TJ’s relationship on General Hospital widened after the baby’s death. They had trouble communicating about how to plan the funeral, with Molly throwing herself into her legal work and TJ ending up planning everything. They also disagreed on how much blame to give Kristina for their baby’s death.

The cracks then shattered in December, when they realized how much they had drifted apart, and Molly admitted to TJ that she doesn’t want to have a baby anymore. The partners both tearfully acknowledged the end of their long relationship, ending up sobbing on opposite sides of their apartment door, their lives shattered as both Vaganos and Bellow gave memorable performances.
It’s a story that continues to reverberate in 2025. Kristina has continued to unravel, unsuccessfully trying to kill Ava out of revenge, and currently trying to ruin her romantic relationship with Molly’s father, Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst). It could definitely lead to more Emmy material for Mansi and Vaganos should Molly ever find out that her sister caused her father’s car accident by cutting his brakes because she thought it was Ava’s car.
