When Lucas Jones moved into Wyndemere on General Hospital, fans knew he was taking a big chance. Lucas himself doesn't necessarily realize it, but his portrayer, Van Hansis, is well aware that his character could get into a lot of trouble.
Lucas went to live with his beau, Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo), in the castle owned by Marco’s father, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota). Lucas knows about Sidwell’s conflict with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his plans to take over the piers owned by Sonny, but he is in the dark about Sidwell’s top secret research project headed by Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and Henry Dalton (Daniel Goddard).
Lucas is taking a big step in his life on General Hospital

And Lucas has zero idea that Sidwell just murdered Dalton in the castle and put the professor’s body in the car trunk of Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis).
But Lucas has been warned about Sidwell, by his sister Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), which has caused a lot of tension between them.
The drama and conflict has been fun to play for Hansis, who shared his thoughts on the situation and his General Hospital storyline in a long interview with Soap Opera Digest.
“I kind of love that,” Hansis said in the interview. “I think the whole Wyndemere story is really, really fun — it’s kind of Agatha Christie-esque, with a creepy mansion and all of these sort of nefarious people with agendas, people getting murdered … I love it. I think it’s very weird and gothic and fun.”
The General Hospital star teased that there will be plenty of drama coming up while Lucas is in the mansion and Sidwell tries to cover up Dalton’s murder.
“Lucas is completely none the wiser,” Hansis said. “He has no idea what’s going on! He thinks he’s living in the Love Island mansion and that everything is great. Coming up, some weird stuff starts to happen….”
Hansis talked a lot with SOD about how Lucas could be in putting himself in danger by living with Marco. Hansis said he thinks Marco does have feelings for Lucas, and knows that Marco could be helping his father battle Sonny. But he also sees how good a person Marco can be.
“Even though I have no idea what’s going to happen with this story, it’s really fun to play Lucas having his horse blinders on and kind of willingly putting himself in a very dangerous situation, maybe without realizing how dangerous it actually is,” Hansis said.
The General Hospital star said that his character’s argument with Carly is as much about Carly’s history with Sonny and his mob activity as anything else. And that Lucas resents Carly not supporting his relationship with Marco, when she knows how much Lucas’s Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) damaged him with all of his lies and schemes. Hansis didn’t play Lucas when they were raising Wiley together and Brad was keeping Wiley’s true identity as Michael’s son away from Lucas. But he understands those relationships, and Hansis said he and Wright have had a lot of talks about their characters’ history.

“I think that agency is something that Lucas has fought really hard to have, especially because in his last relationship with Brad, he was sort of duped for years about Wiley,” Hansis said. “I think he really wants to be able to stand on his own two feet and be able to be like, ‘Look, I can make decisions for myself.’”
On the other hand, Hansis said he loves that Lucas’s aunt Ava Jerome (Maura West) is fully on board with his move to Wyndemere, which General Hospital fans may find odd considering Ava’s traumatic history in the castle. But Hansis said Lucas loves getting advice from Ava and said a lot in the interview about that relationship.
Hansis also loves the character of Sidwell and talked a lot about how he loves working with Carlo Rota on General Hospital. “He’s a really inquisitive, curious guy and really easy to talk to. And I can’t speak for him, but as Sidwell, it looks like he’s having a ball playing the character, and I think that just radiates off the screen with him,” Hansis said.
