General Hospital star Adrian Anchondo got a chance recently to share his passion and his job with his family.

Anchondo, who plays Marco Rios on the show, gave his grandmother and two cousins a tour of the studio. He shared photos from the experience on his Instagram account, saying that his grandmother is a fan of General Hospital.

He shared pictures of his grandma and cousins trying out the brushes in the makeup room with one of the makeup artists at General Hospital. He also shared pictures of his family posing with co-stars Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne), Josh Swickard (Chase), and Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). He also showed his family posing with one of the show’s Daytime Emmy awards, and his family outside the studio.

For Anchondo, the best part was seeing his grandma’s reactions. He captioned the post, in part, “Over the years I’ve struggled with being taken seriously for my passion, begged friends and family to come see me in plays, to turn on their TV for a few minutes, to share something I created. And today, seeing her smile and experience the magic that I get to see and live in made up for all the times I didn’t feel validated or didn’t believe that this could be real for me.”

That was part of a longer post in which he expressed the stress and fears of being an actor trying to make it in Los Angeles, and the worries of doing a good job at General Hospital. Also, trying to please fans as Marco is in a relationship with Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) and turning a blind eye to some of his father, Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota), devious deeds.

“I’ve been battling anxiety, often fighting with myself at 3 am, allowing intrusive thoughts to hinder my performance on and off the stage,” Anchondo wrote. “This career is not for the faint of heart, you’re always questioning yourself, working and letting go of multiple jobs, falling in love with characters and dialogue that you don’t get to keep, pages and pages of words that are permanently filed somewhere in the back of your mind.”

He said he was able to relax and feel a lot of gratitude seeing his grandmother smile, and “feeling the light of her pride shining on me. She took pictures with actors she’s admired and watched for decades, people that I get to call my coworkers, and through her eyes I was once again reminded that this is real, that I’m one of them, that I’m doing what I was meant to do. She helped me pinch myself and breathe again, to let go of what I can’t control.”

Several General Hospital co-stars “Liked” the post. Sawandi Wilson (Dr. Isaiah Gannon) commented, “Awwww, love this!”

Dozens of fans reacted not only to the cute and fun pictures but the openness that Anchondo shared.

The Instagram user jmh62, said, “You do an absolutely awesome job playing Marco, and I hope no one tells you anything different!”

The user adamdicola said, “Marco & Lucas could be a couple that could catapult a gay couple into a role models for our future. GH do right by them.” The user deb_riccio said, “Beautiful story and a wonderful thing that you did for your grandmother. And to see her so happy and smile at the work you do has to be the greatest award you can ever get. You are an extremely talented actor, and I absolutely love Marco!”

Another fan, jbrumfield0710, added, “Thank you for being so vulnerable. I’m sure many look at you and see a handsome, talented, sexy man, and would never imagine you deal with these types of insecurities. You speaking out like this will help others.”
