In 2019, General Hospital gave fans a special Christmas episode. The show did an episode retelling the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. The episode had General Hospital actors dressed in period costumes. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) was the center of the episode, playing Scrooge, and four women who are on the show then and now played the four ghosts who visited Scrooge.
The framework for that episode is bittersweet now, as Dr. Monica Quartermaine (the late Leslie Charleson) read a Christmas story to children at GH during a snowstorm.
Drew has not changed his ways since being shot on General Hospital

While that episode of General Hospital was entertaining and put us in the holiday spirit, the main premise of that script is not that Finn was a bad guy, just a grumpy doctor who wasn’t feeling enough Christmas spirit.
Currently on General Hospital, there is a real Scrooge terrorizing everyone in his orbit and trying to disrupt their joy and that of their families during the holidays.
That, of course, is Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), the corrupt and conniving congressman who has somehow become even more coarse and incorrigible since being shot and nearly killed in September. Any General Hospital fan or citizen of Port Charles who thought he would go through some soul-searching after his near-death experience has been sorely disappointed.
So if any character in Port Charles needs a spiritual wakeup call, it’s Drew. Since General Hospital already did a tribute to Scrooge six years ago, they wouldn’t do the same episode again. But what if they did? Here’s who we think would make the best ghosts.
Jacob Marley: Ned Quartermaine

In A Christmas Carol, Jacob Marley is the business partner of Scrooge, who Scrooge basically worked to death. On General Hospital, Drew nearly sent Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) to an early grave by making him angry over the Quartermaine memorabilia and heirlooms that he stole, causing Ned to have a heart attack.
Ned, as somewhat of a business partner to Drew, would be the perfect person to warn the congressman about the frights he is about to experience. Kurth played Fezziwig in the 2019 episode. And he has enjoyed wearing extravagant costumes on the show before, performing as a pirate, as Elton John at the Nurses’ Ball, to name a few moments, so he would do a great job as Marley’s Ghost.
Ghost of Christmas Past: Oscar Nero-Quartermaine

Drew was at his best on General Hospital when he was being a loving father to Oscar (Garren Stitt), his son with Kim Nero (Tamara Braun), while he was dying from brain cancer. Oscar died at the Quartermaines, and the buildup and aftermath of his death in 2019 was one of the most impactful stories on General Hospital that year. This was when Billy Miller played Drew, and he was a caring father to Oscar, and a loyal friend to everyone in his son’s orbit, including his girlfriend Josslyn (Eden McCoy), who was the Ghost of Christmas Past in the 2019 episode.
Nowadays, Drew rarely mentions Oscar, so his son would be the perfect pathway to remind him of the kind man he was in the past. There would be plenty of flashbacks to Drew’s past, specially filmed scenes for the episode, some maybe going back to when Drew and Kim were first dating and he was in the military. Braun, fresh off a long stint on Days of Our Lives, is currently on The Young and the Restless, but in this hypothetical fantasy, that wouldn’t matter, and she could film new scenes with Mathison.
Monica showed a lot of love to Oscar in his final days, so there would be scenes with her, too, and heartfelt flashbacks.
Ghost of Christmas Present: Martin Gray

Michael E. Knight’s lawyer is certainly a gray character nowadays. Knight’s comic skills and charm would add a little levity in between the dark scenes from the past and future. Kathleen Gati played the ghost in 2019 and was the perfect choice for that. Knight’s ghost would show Drew how miserable Scout (Cosette Abinante) is without the rest of her family. How Alexis is sad without Scout and her mother, Sam (Kelly Monaco). How Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) is truly spiraling and dealing with mental health issues when no one is looking. How the Quartermaines are angry about not having Monica’s heirlooms.
Even added scenes of random Port Charles constituents suffering during Christmas because their congressman is too busy making threats and not delivering on his promises. Martin could give Drew a speech about how a politician is supposed to help people, not destroy them. He could remind Drew about why he ran in the first place, and how he got the endorsement of his predecessor, Larry McConkey (Sam McMurray).
Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come: Tracy Quartermaine

Jane Elliot played the equivalent to Marley's Ghost in the 2019 General Hospital episode, and she would be a great foil for Drew in this retelling of the Christmas Carol. While Tracy and Drew constantly trade barbs and insults, in the original story, the Ghost of Christmas Future is eerie and silent, so having Tracy play this role would be a neat twist and a contrast to how she yelled at Finn/Scrooge in the 2019 episode.
Elliot would give a classic Tracy glare at Mathison and be haunting and menacing like Maura West was in the 2019 episode, while Tracy shows Drew what a nightmare his future could look like. A failed conversation with a grown-up Scout who wants nothing to do with him. The Quartermaines, happy and healthy without him. An older Willow, happy and healed with a grown-up Wiley (Viron Weaver) and Amelia (Sequoia and Serenity Mork Macko), and maybe back together with Michael (Rory Gibson). Or considering the crimes Drew has committed, a simple, cold future in Pentonville, locked in a jail cell for the rest of his days.
The possibilities are endless as the citizens of Port Charles wish Drew Cain would change his ways and go back to being a good father and friend, and also be a politician who actually looks out for his constituents.
