Laura Wright recalls the classic General Hospital scene that got her jumping up and down

Time will tell if Carly gets excited about Britt's return on General Hospital, but her portrayer, Laura Wright, remembers getting all excited when another heroine from Port Charles made her triumphant return from that great soap in the sky! Like many of us, Wright fondly recalls this scene, one of the show's most memorable.

The year was 1983, and Genie Francis was back on General Hospital as Laura Webber Baldwin Spencer. Presumed dead in early 1982, Laura, in reality, had been kidnapped by the Cassadines and taken to the family's island overseas.

After discovering that Luke (Anthony Geary) was alive, Laura managed to escape the island and make her way back to Port Charles. She was in a conundrum, however. If Laura let Luke and her parents, Rick (Chris Robinson) and Lesley (Denise Alexander), know she was alive, the Cassadines would go after them.

Laura walked around Port Charles for a few weeks in disguise as singer Christopher Cross's haunting theme "Think of Laura" scored Francis's scenes. On the day Luke was sworn in as mayor, Laura visited the politician's mansion, the location of their General Hospital wedding two years prior. The two episodes from 1981 remain the most-watched episodes in the history of soap operas.

After several episodes of Laura nearly reconnecting with her loved ones and meeting people who came onto the show after she'd left, the big moment had come. Luke, unable to shake a feeling that something was going on, poured himself a glass of champagne on the mansion's balcony. He was in so much pain, it appeared as if Luke was going to snap in half. Hoping to numb the feeling of loss, Luke looked up and spied Laura walking on the grounds!

At that same moment, Laura recognized a Cassadine henchman and started to run away. She stopped in her tracks upon hearing Luke scream out her name. "Laura? Laura!" Luke exclaimed. Laura went running into her husband's arms. He lifted her off the ground and cried out, "Oh, my God!"

The scene we wanted to see

Wright commented on a post from X, formerly Twitter user @bookconvos, who shared a video of the reunion, stating, "This will always be a favorite back from the dead scene."

"Ohhh the BEST ever!!!!!" Wright posted. "I remember watching this screaming and yelling and crying and jumping up and down [on] my bed!!"

Weren't we all! After Francis had exited GH, she filmed the mini-series Bare Essence, and viewers feared that Laura would never turn up alive, even though her body had never been found.

After reuniting with Luke, Laura reconnected with Lesley, Rick, and the rest of her friends and family. Luke and Laura weren't out of danger yet, though. Stravos Cassadine (John Martinuzzi), obsessed with Laura, came to Port Charles with a plan to bring her back to Cassadine Island. He died after falling down a flight of stairs while in pursuit of the couple. (Stavros, too, later returned from the dead when Robert Kelker Kelly assumed the part.)

At the end of the year, Luke and Laura left Port Charles to travel the world. After a brief return in 1984, the couple came back to GH in 1993 with their son, Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), ready to embark on a series of new adventures.
