General Hospital is going to start looking more familiar to ABC Daytime fans. First reported on her website, beloved fan favorite Erika Slezak, who played Viki on One Life to Live from 1971 to the show's network finale in 2012, is checking into GH.
Erika Slezak joins General Hospital
A statement on Slezak's website reads: "Erika has just informed me she has signed a short-term contract with ABC's General Hospital. At this time, Erika does not know which character she will be playing or when her scenes will air, but is excited to be working again with Executive Producer Frank Valentini and the cast of GH!"
Executive Producer Frank Valentini confirmed on X, "I am thrilled to confirm that my dear friend and former “One Life to Live” colleague, Erika Slezak, will appear on this Fall. Stay tuned as we prepare to introduce another daytime legend to Port Charles."
Valentini, OLTL's former executive producer, now GH's EP, has a few options to bring Slezak onto the canvas. She could be reprising her role as Viki, who just happens to be visiting Port Charles. Perhaps, Viki needs to see a specialist for her heart. Or she is consulting a psychiatrist for her multiple personalities.
We've seen other characters from Llanview, OLTL's setting, check into GH. Hillary B. Smith (Nora), Kassie DePaiva (Blair), and Michael Easton (John McBain) have all appeared on GH as their OLTL characters. Ilene Kristen reprised her role as Delia from Ryan's Hope on GH when it was revealed that Delia is Ava's (Maura West) mother.
The many faces of Erika
Another option would be to have Slezak play a new character. We've seen actors from axed ABC serials All My Children and OLTL take on new roles on General Hospital. Easton played a few different characters, most recently, Dr. Hamilton Finn. Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan, AMC) is now known to GH fans as Drew Cain. Also, Michael E. Knight (ex-Tad, AMC) is GH's Martin.
Slezak is one of soap opera's most revered and respected actresses. She holds the record for the most Daytime Emmy victories in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (1984, 1986, 1992, 1995, 1996, and 2005).
Viewers would love to see Slezak be reunited on General Hospital with her former TV son Chris McKenna, who played OLTL's Joey from 1990 to 1993. Today, McKenna plays the role of GH's Jack Brennan.

Slezak reprised her role as Viki on the short-lived 2014 revival of OLTL when it appeared on The Online Network. The actress's other credits include Blue Bloods, Next Stop, Christmas, The Resident, and Full Circle. In 2020, Slezak appeared as herself in the ABC one-shot documentary The Story of Soaps.
