Kelly Thiebaud, who played Dr. Britt Westbourne on General Hospital on and off since 2012, is returning to the ABC soap opera. Will she be playing Britt (who is presumed dead) or a new character?

Kelly Thiebaud is coming home to General Hospital

Deadline broke the news that Thiebaud would be back on the ABC serial in July. The article didn't indicate whether that meant taping or airing. "It's good to be home," says Thiebaud.

The big question is whether the Daytime Emmy winner will be reprising her role as Britt or playing a new character. We do know that twins run in the family, as Britt's cousin Nina (Cynthia Watros) gave birth to daughters Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Nelle (Chloe Lanier).

Perhaps the answer to who Thiebaud will be playing can be found in a statement from GH executive producer Frank Valentini, who said, "I am thrilled to have Kelly back on our show. We have some great twists and turns planned for her character.”

It certainly would be a twist to resurrect Britt, who died in her mother Leisl's (Kathleen Gati) arms. However, let's keep in mind that Britt had planned on faking her death and leaving town following her diagnosis of Huntington's disease. Could she have orchestrated a greater plan to make that departure look convincing?

However, resurrecting characters who are pretty much confirmed dead is certainly in GH's wheelhouse. The characters of Laura (Genie Francis), Anna (Finola Hughes), Laura (Genie Francis), Holly (Emma Samms), and Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) have all been presumed dead at one point or another.

Thiebaud has stayed in intermittent touch with her fan base through social media since her early 2023 exit from GH. She's spent time in England, New York City, and Los Angeles.

Acting-wise, post-GH, she appeared in an episode of Magnum P.I. She can be seen in the upcoming film Shakey Grounds. Thiebaud dipped her toes back into the serial waters this year by voicing the role of Dr. Layla Carreri in the audio drama Montecito, available on Facebook, YouTube, and iTunes.

"Kelly's story in Montecito is a nod to one of her first storylines on General Hospital," says Grant Rutter, Montecito's creator. "It's related to Marc Anthony Samuel's [Felix, GH] character Gio."

Good news for Jason

Thiebaud's return bodes potentially great news for Steve Burton's Jason. Burton and Thiebaud sizzled on-screen. Jason learned about Britt's death following his return from the dead (the show has a habit of resurrecting characters) and mourned her passing. Britt's return could also create a path for Brad (Parry Shen), her partner-in-crime, to return to Port Charles.

Traditionally, characters only come back from the dead when their bodies haven't been found. Britt's different in that we saw her pass away on camera. So, Thiebaud could either be playing Britt or some kind of twin/doppelganger. (But let's hope that the actress is reprising and resurrecting Britt!)
