Patricia Bethune, who won a Daytime Emmy for playing demented nurse and Ryan Chamberlain murder victim Mary Pat Ingles on General Hospital, has a new book out.Bethune has written a novel called Take Me Home - Ashes, Clover and Cre, which pays tribute to Ireland.Patricia Bethune played a memorable nurse on General HospitalMary Pat and Carly were enemies | Image: ABCAccording to her website, the book “is a lyrical, character-driven compact novel that follows an American schoolteacher who travels to Ireland to trace her roots — only to be drawn into a mystical journey where the past speaks, spirits stir, and a centuries-old famine tragedy demands reckoning.”The book is available in hardcover print as well as audiobook and other digital formats.The former General Hospital actor has been promoting the book on her social media for several weeks. In one Instagram post, she said “The launch has begun.... thanks to all who take a moment and buy the book. It will help get me Into the algorithm.”She has also released a song that accompanies the book.Bethune won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Performer for playing Nurse Mary Pat Ingles on General Hospital in 2018.Mary Pat was a nurse at Ferncliff who tormented Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) while she was in there after she was arrested for causing a pregnant Nelle (Chloe Lanier) to fall down a staircase. As part of the story, Mary Pat tried to give electric shock therapy to Carly, who was eventually rescued by Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).Later, Mary Pat ran afoul of Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) while he was posing as his brother, psychiatrist Kevin Collins. Chamberlain murdered her, and in a famous scene in the Ryan Chamberlain saga, Carly found Mary Pat’s head in a crate while bobbing for apples during Halloween.Bethune came to General Hospital after a long recurring run on the supernatural series True Blood. She has also appeared on numerous popular shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, How to Get Away with Murder, Murphy Brown, Seinfeld, NCIS and Mad Men.She also has done well on the stage. Bethune has won awards for theater work, including Gynecomedy, an all-female improv show that she also directed.When she’s not acting, the former General Hospital nurse does a lot of work to support real-life caregivers. According to her website, she co-wrote a book called What Can I Do? A Guide for Family and Friends of Caregivers which is available on Amazon.She also volunteers her time as a spokesperson for The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, named after the deceased former First Lady.
