The show is headquartered in New York City’s Times Square with Seacrest and other personalities and shows performances from cities around the country. It’s unclear where Springfield will be performing from.

The former General Hospital star announced the news on his social media accounts, sharing a promotional picture on his Instagram.

According to Parade, Springfield has been on the show twice before. In 1982, he performed his biggest and most iconic hit “Jessie’s Girl.” In 2011, he performed “Love Somebody.”

Fans congratulated him and wished him luck on the performance. Some hardcore fans remembered his first time performing on the show more than 40 years ago.

The Instagram user alleykitty13 said, “I remember watching Rick on Dick Clark rockin eve 1981💖 He made the whole show incredible!!! Everything is coming around full circle! Wouldn't miss watching Rick on this New Year's show! Awesomeness.”

The fan cerrisue, added “I am astounded constantly at this man’s stamina. I have seen him twice. My very first concert at 14 years old, ‘82, and again in ‘13. And he has never stopped performing. Ever. Doubling up some times! Amazing. That he can still do that jump from the ‘80s??”

MTV and SiriusXM personality Alan Hunter commented, “But of course you are, Rick!! Congrats.”

Springfield, who turned 76 in August, has never stopped touring and occasionally releases new music. His last album, Automatic, debuted in 2023, with its title track as the lead single.

He has toured regularly with fellow 80s icon Richard Marx in recent years, and on all-80s tours with other popular artists.

In his acting career, he has appeared on shows such as American Horror Story and Supernatural.

Springfield last appeared on General Hospital as Noah Drake in 2013. He returned for the 50th anniversary of the show as Noah reunited with his son Patrick (Jason Thompson) and performed “Jessie’s Girl” at the Nurses’ Ball.

He revealed a health scare with residual brain damage from a fall more than 25 years ago in an interview with People in 2025.
