General Hospital brings a One Life to Live reunion nobody saw coming — and it’s pure magic

You never know what’ll happen on General Hospital these days. Ronnie (Erika Slezak) had fans’ jaws on the floor after deciding to sell the Quartermaine mansion to Drew (Cameron Mathison), a move no one saw coming — and while the dust is still settling on that deal, actor Chris McKenna gave fans another surprise entirely.

In a behind-the-scenes moment that’s equal parts nostalgic and heartwarming, McKenna — who plays Jack Brennan — reunited on-screen with One Life to Live legend Erika Slezak. The two shared a small scene at Bobbie’s, but for longtime soap fans, it meant much more than that.

A blooper becomes a reunion

On Instagram, General Hospital’s Chris McKenna posted a clip and wrote, “Most magical moment #GH.” The short video shows Erika Slezak walking into Bobbie’s Diner, where McKenna’s character is behind the counter. As she enters, she smiles and says, “Joey.” He looks up, laughing, and replies, “Mom, I’m working.” She grins back as he looks at the camera, saying, “I couldn’t resist. I’m sorry.” The moment lasts all of ten seconds, but it’s soaked in easy affection — two pros falling back into rhythm like no time has passed at all.

McKenna and Slezak, of course, go way back — he once played Joey Buchanan, son of her Victoria “Viki” Lord on One Life to Live, making this an unexpected cross-over reunion. The post was short, the caption humble, but the emotion in the clip spoke volumes. It wasn’t just a blooper; it was a love letter to daytime history, one framed in laughter and a familiar “Mom, I’m working.”

General Hospital fans lose it over the surprise

The comment section became a full-blown lovefest for One Life to Live fans who still remember every beat of Joey and Viki’s story. @msdal09 wrote, “Loved it! Ronnie: ‘Did we know each other?’ Brennan: ‘Maybe in another life’. That’s some Emmy-winning writing right there, if only the fans of one of the best daytime dramas are the only ones who get it! Well done.”

@jpframe430923 added, “Erika Slezak has been a total gem! Today, Friday, Oct. 31, was a perfect 10, from the very beginning with her Ronnie recognizing ‘Joey’ as someone she thought she used to know and Jack Brennan saying maybe they did know each other in another life.”

Others felt that same rush of nostalgia. @googie0425 said, “This was such a beautiful moment today seeing Ronnie call out Joey and he looking at her while the writers referencing the mother/son bond of One Life to Live for us diehard fans. It was just so great!!! Fabulous outtake!”

@jansfavoritebooksandmore wrote, “That outtake. Priceless. This scene today (the real one) was something so special. The writing was perfect. For those of us ONE LIFE TO LIVE fans you two knocked it out of the park. Thank you.”

For fans of both OLTL and General Hospital, it wasn’t just a reunion. It was memory coming full circle — the kind of magic daytime still knows how to make when it remembers where it came from.

General Hospital can be seen weekdays on ABC and Hulu.
