General Hospital Comings and Goings: Michael E. Knight brings Marty home

Michael E. Knight makes another return to General Hospital this week when Martin Grey makes his way back to Port Charles and reunites with his sister.

When we last saw Marty, he was hauled from Laura's apartment in cuffs after Tracy made sure he was extradited to California due to delinquent alimony payments to one of his ex-wives.

His departure came after months of Tracy (Jane Elliot) and Marty sparring and entertaining us all. They could have started their own spin-off sitcom, but then Marty was gone, and Ric (Rick Hearst) had to take over as Port Charles' smarmy resident lawyer. While Marty was Willow's (Katelyn MacMullen) original divorce lawyer, Rick was the one who took the case to court and caused Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) to go into labor on the witness stand.

At the time, Knight's exit was expected to be temporary, but there was no word on when he would return. Now, we know he will be back on screen on Tuesday, June 10th, sharing scenes with Genie Francis' Laura.

Knight made his soap debut back in 1982 as Tad "The Cad" Martin on ABC's All My Children. Although various All My Children characters have appeared on General Hospital, Marty is an entirely new character with no ties to Tad at all...as far as we know.

Knight first brought the character of Marty to General Hospital in 2019 when he arrived in town as Valentin's (James Patrick Stuart) personal lawyer, who soon took on Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) as a client. He helped her when she tried to win custody of Wiley in 2020, but Nelle lost the case when Nina (Cynthia Watros) testified against her at Carly's (Laura Wright) behest.

Marty was eventually revealed to be Cyrus Renault's (Jeff Kober) brother, with their father being Gordon Grey, who was also Laura Collins' biological dad. Laura and Marty later had to hide out in a safe house together, where we learned they had bonded over video games for months while off-screen.

Marty's romance with Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) was a highlight of his time in Port Charles, but it ended when he discovered her tryst with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) in 2024. What will Marty do during his latest upcoming stint in Port Charles? If all goes well, he will return to sparring with Tracy.
