General Hospital having a crossover with Grey's Anatomy might not be as tricky as you think

General Hospital fans may know that the ABC soap shoots on the same studio lot that Grey's Anatomy does. The two medical series have something else in common. Both shows use the same exterior building entrance as their fictional hospital entrances. A recent post from Nancy Lee Grahn, who plays Alexis Davis, has people crying crossover!

"I'm just showing up for work, and apparently, I'm working on Grey's Anatomy today because I swear to God this said 'General Hospital' yesterday," Grahn's voice said over a video of the building with the sign for GREY+SLOAN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL on it. "I'm confused, what's happening," chuckled the actress.

Grahn's followers are definitely up for a crossover between the two TV shows. "Now that would be a crossover!" enthused @jaclyn725. Added @733rose: "That's a crossover I would love to see!" @deecam1021 enthuses, "Crossover??? That would be amazing!!!!"

GH and Grey's Anatomy have a lot in common. Both are ABC medical series, and both programs are long-running! GH is the longest-running series in TV history that's still on the air, having debuted in 1963. For a prime-time show, heck, even for a soap opera, Grey's Anatomy is having a nice long run; it's 20 years old, having debuted in 2005.

Created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey's Anatomy tells the story of physicians and surgeons at a hospital in Seattle. Originally known as "Seattle Grace Hospital," the hospital was later named "Sloan + Grey Memorial Hospital." The lead character, from the show's inception, is Dr. Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo.

She's the daughter of Dr. Ellis Grey (Kate Burton), a famous surgeon. Meredith's first co-workers and friends at the hospital were Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers; ex-Nick, Another World) and George O'Malley (T. R. Knight).

One of the show's long-running characters is Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson, who has guested on GH a few times). Meredith's first love on the show was Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Other early characters included Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), and Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), who like Wilson's Bailey, is still on the show.

If "Dr. Richard Webber" is a name that sounds familiar to GH fans, it should. There was a character on the daytime soap opera by that name. He was first played by Michael Gregory, and then Chris Robinson took over the part.
