Considering he’s in the best shape of his life, General Hospital star Cameron Mathison always has health advice for his fans. While viewers haven’t held back their hatred of his character, Drew, Mathison himself is an accomplished actor and TV host. He often has something poignant to say to his followers, and recently had some great information to impart on them.

Fasting is the best thing one can do

For those who don’t know, fasting has many great health benefits. Oftentimes, we have to reboot our computers or phones to help them work better. The same can be said for the human body, considering our organs are working from the moment we’re born, without any break at all. A 7-day fast not only reboots the human body by giving its organs a break to refresh, it also has incredible benefits, including burning fat for energy (instead of calories), creating better mental clarity, helping the body to lower sugar levels, increasing longevity, and entering into a state of autophagy where damaged cells are repaired. Usually, by day three, hunger goes away, and your body gets onto the job of fixing and resetting everything.

With all these remarkable benefits, General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison also had advice on how to properly fast, whether it’s for one day or more. On Instagram, he shared a video in which he explained that for 8 years or so, he’s been fasting regularly, but acknowledged making some mistakes. He stated, “Here's some tips to avoid them. Number 1, make sure you drink lots of water. That's so important to stay hydrated. Number 2, have your electrolytes once, twice, 3 times a day with the water makes a big difference. And number 3, probably the most important, is you've got to mentally prepare because you're going to hit some rough spots.”

He noted any hunger one feels is only temporary, “and you're going to get through it and you're going to get to the other side.”

Mental preparation is key

He also added to his thoughts by writing, “I should’ve also included your fast is only as good as your feast! I make sure that I get all my calories in during my eating window in order to keep my metabolism revved up. I use fasting for all the incredible health benefits: autophagy, inflammation reduction, gut health, and more.” He continued by reiterating that hydration, electrolytes, and mental preparation are key to properly doing a fast, and added that, “It’s not easy but know the moments of being hungry always pass.”

The General Hospital star also wrote, “I also change my fasting window to keep my body guessing and metabolically flexible.” He then stated he would create a reel about his “specific fasting protocol,” and encouraged fans to join his Health360 project, once it was ready for public consumption.

General Hospital fans were very happy to hear what he had to say, with @reah_reah commenting, “I’m in my 3rd day of intermittent fasting so I’m a baby here but these tips honestly are so helpful already!” Mathison’s followers really absorbed his information and took his advice to heart.

Because the stomach goes into hibernation on a long fast, one hopes that Mathison will eventually discuss the proper meals that should be consumed when coming off of a multi-day fast, and easing back into proper eating.
