John J. York, Cheryl Richardson: General Hospital's John J. York reunites with a blast from the past

General Hospital star John J. York, who plays Mac Scorpio, has been through a lot in the past couple of years. In June 2024, he detailed his battle with cancer to the fans, and later that year shared his first emotional journey back on set. Thankfully, he’s been doing well, having beaten myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and smoldering multiple myeloma through a stem cell transplant from a donor. Recently, he shared a fun time he had on social media, and the fans were happy to see him enjoying his life.

A reunion in the mountains

On X, formerly Twitter, he wrote, “On hike with Cheryl Smith, aka Jenny Eckert, Forry Smth aka Reese Walker (Santa Barbara) and some close friends on a beautiful day on Mt. Schweitzer in Sand point Idaho.” York started playing Mac in 1991, and Smith, who was going by the name, Cheryl Richardson, played Jenny from 1991 to 1994, and had a brief return in 1996. Forry Smith is her husband, and as York wrote, he played Reese on the now-defunct soap, Santa Barbara, from 1992 to 1993. It looked like Cheryl was the one taking the photo because she was close to the camera while York and the rest of their friends were in the background.

@ledagre83794195 lovingly commented, “Glad to see ya feeling better.” A longtime General Hospital fan, @BB_Buzzreal, chimed in with, “Beautiful area! It's good to see Cheryl, she feels like an old friend though we've never met. Good to see you healthy and happy.” @momandally22 shared an ironic response, writing, “I went to school with a Jenny Eckert in Portland, OR. Glad to see you doing well.”

@bristow72 also had a coincidental reply, commenting, “On an early 90s #GH deep dive and Jenny is on my screen RIGHT NOW. Looks like a beautiful day to hike w/ friends.” On General Hospital, Jenny Eckert was the sister of Bill Eckert, who was played by iconic star, Anthony Geary, who was looking for a break from playing the legendary Luke Spencer. She often clashed with Tracy (Jane Elliot), and eventually left town with Paul Hornsby (then Paul Satterfield). Unbeknownst to many, Paul would return to Port Charles years later (as played by Richard Burgi), and turned out to be a serial killer that terrorized General Hospital.

@emmaskid7 enthusiastically wrote, “Great picture! What a blast from the past! Loved Jenny Eckert!” And @KathieGunn had some kind words, writing, “Good friends, good health, beautiful location…I’m so happy life is so great for you!” Overall, the fans were thrilled to see an actress who hasn’t been on the show for ages, and this post might bring a renewed interest in seeing Jenny return to town.
