Besides his General Hospital co-stars and actors from other soap operas, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) has had many famous people come on as interview guests for his State of Mind podcast series, which focuses on mental health.

On his Instagram account on Wednesday, Benard teased that he may have landed another well-known celebrity to appear on the series: actress Olivia Munn.

Benard posted a video of him talking to Munn at an event. He didn’t specify where he met Munn, but based on the dress she was wearing, it was likely the 2025 Astra TV Awards on June 10th at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, an event presented by the Hollywood Creative Alliance.

Munn posed for numerous red carpet photos in that dress during the event, where she was supporting her husband, John Mulaney, who was nominated for an award.

Benard and Munn were talking in a room with other people around and ambient noise. It was difficult to understand what they were saying, but Munn clearly said the name General Hospital multiple times.

Benard said in his caption for the post: “I am a big fan of @oliviamunn and she’s a big fan of @generalhospitalabc all we have to do is get her on @mbstatemind.”

Benard noted that Munn said yes to appearing on State of Mind, but he added, “We will see.” General Hospital co-star Laura Wright (Carly), commented on Benard’s post, saying “So awesome!!!”

Munn, 44, is known for her lead role in the HBO Series The Newsroom. She was also a correspondent for The Daily Show and starred in major films such as X Men: Apocalypse, Iron Man 2, and Zoolander 2. She currently stars in the series Your Friends & Neighbors with Jon Hamm and Amanda Peet.

Munn is also known as a vocal activist for women’s rights and was named one of Time magazine’s Women of the Year for 2025. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and ultimately had a double mastectomy.

Munn has had a successful career spanning more than two decades, so between her acting success, activism, and her cancer treatments, she would have plenty to talk about with Benard on State of Mind.

What is State of Mind?

Benard, who has bipolar disorder, started his State of Mind interview series in 2020 during the early days of the pandemic.

In recent weeks, he has posted interviews with Days of Our Lives actor Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez), singer Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees, and actor Frank Lyon, who plays Sonny’s bodyguard Frank on General Hospital.

This Sunday, his guest will be GH actress Risa Dorken (Amy Driscoll), who also has bipolar and has appeared on the series before.

Benard has also devoted episodes to how he handles his bipolar condition, most recently in May, when he also discussed the public meltdowns of Britney Spears and Kanye West.
