Sonny Corinthos does not come across as the singing type on General Hospital. He’s too busy dealing with his criminal organization and far worse malefactors who want to do harm to his family and Port Charles at large. But in real life, his portrayer, Maurice Benard, doesn’t have to worry about threats and prefers to enjoy his free time with his family. He shared a fun video from a recent trip showing how wonderfully his family bonds.
Don’t quit your day job
General Hospital star Maurice Benard shared a video on Instagram, writing, “I won’t forget the trip to the Bahamas. Everything just seem[ed] to be perfect. Some things are good for your body, for your mind. This trip was good for my soul.” In the video, Benard was seated with his daughter Cailey, her husband Carlos, and their children TT (who’s sleeping while leaning against her mother) and Milo. The family appeared to be on a tour boat of some kind, with them seated near the front and several passengers behind them.
From an undisclosed source, "Don’t Stop Believing" by the classic rock band Journey was playing, and the adults were singing along with it. Of course, Benard hit an extended low note toward the end of the clip, causing everyone to laugh along with his lack of singing talent. A fan going by @ellenbethcleary enthusiastically responded, “[You’re] funny, it’s wonderful. You get to spend some quality time with your family. Enjoy every minute!” to which Benard responded with several heart emojis.
A nice reset

Benard had officiated Cailey and Carlos’ wedding in 2020, and recently shared an intimate family moment when the two lovingly renewed their vows. His followers not only loved watching him share some family time, but also enjoyed the iconic tune as well. @danyeawatkins commented, “Family time is the best way to reset!” Long-time General Hospital viewer, @syl6968, wrote, “Love the love your family shares. Continued blessings. I’ve enjoyed you on GH since you first appeared.” The overall consensus from his fans was that they loved the bonding that was happening, as well as the joy it brought them, with @margiesherrill replying, “I love this song...Thank You Maurice for the uplift! I needed this right now!”
@faiths2s made the interesting comment, “I was just sitting here waiting for @mauricebenard to make the video go black just like Sopranos.” The Sopranos was a complex, realistic, and edgy show about mobsters, and was one of Benard’s favorites, as he’s often mentioned. The last scene of each episode would suddenly cut to a black screen, and fans were often left wondering what was to become of its protagonist, Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini).
But no one was left wondering what happened to Benard, as it was obvious he was enjoying his respite with his family.
