Vanessa Marcil is still beloved for her turn as Brenda Barrett on General Hospital. The actress hasn't been on the show in quite some time, but she recently let people know that she wants to hear from them not only about Brenda but also about her other creative endeavors.
Checking in to General Hospital
"My team blocks thousands of people a day," Marcil posted on Instagram. "Between perverted guys & judgmental, negative and/or hateful people to keyboard warriors who sit inside a structure owned by someone else.
"Now, people who have different opinions on my art or a character I've portrayed? That is WELCOME!" she clarified. "As long as you keep saying my name, I keep making money for my family. As long as I've stirred up a feeling in you, then I've done my job as an artist. Otherwise? I could [not] care less how you feel about my personal beliefs or my family. Carry on!"
The great debates

So, from Marcil's post, it sounds as if she's okay if you want to debate whether she belongs with Sonny (Maurice Benard) or Jax (Ingo Rademacher). In the mid-1990s, that seemed to be the big debate on GH. Which woman did Brenda belong with? Some felt that Sonny was her one and only. They'd somehow moved forward after he found out that she was trying to get him to confess that time she wore a wire. But after he married Lily (Lilly Melgar), Brenda moved on to a life with Jax.
Jax wasn't a mere substitute for Sonny. He opened up a whole new world to Brenda, one that didn't include mob wars. Brenda wasn't likely to become a target of Sonny's enemies while she was married to Jax.
The question became moot after Brenda was presumed dead when Marcil went off to star as Gina on Beverly Hills, 90210, cousin to Donna Martin (Tori Spelling). Marcil has come and gone from Port Charles over the years. She was also a series regular on Las Vegas, which starred the late James Caan and Josh Duhamel (ex-Leo, All My Children).
Marcil also appeared with Donna Mills (ex-Abby, Knots Landing; ex-Madeline, GH), Hunter Tylo (ex-Taylor, The Bold and the Beautiful), Lindsay Hartley (ex-Theresa, Passions), Chrystee Pharris (ex-Simone, Passions), and Crystal Hunt (ex-Lizzie, Guiding Light) on Queens of Drama, a Pop TV reality series that aired in 2015.
Marcil last appeared on General Hospital a little over 12 years ago in April 2013 as part of the show's 50th anniversary.
