General Hospital star Alexa Havins recently explained that many characters on the show are going to be mad at Lulu if she reveals that Brooklyn (Amanda Setton) conceived a child with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and gave it up for adoption without telling him. Ever since she woke up from a four-year coma, she’s been a busybody, and this secret is just one of many things she has a hand in. Havins recently discussed how she was able to tap into what the fans wanted in her recast of the part.
What makes Lulu tick?

Havins spoke with Woman’s World and dove into Lulu’s storyline, emphasizing how she approached playing the character, which had previously been portrayed by Julie Marie Berman and Emme Rylan. This iteration of Lulu is very strong and forthcoming, and in a way, Havins looks like Berman and sounds like Rylan. But those are just cursory similarities, and the actress worked hard to get at the heart of what makes Lulu tick.
She explained how Lulu is sort of stuck in the past because of the coma. Her world was vastly different before the explosion at the Floating Rib that nearly took her life and rendered her comatose. Now, she’s navigating all sorts of changes and losses that she was not present for. Uncovering the fact that Brook Lynn had Dante’s baby when they were teens (and keeping it secret) has been stuck in her craw ever since she stumbled across that information.
So, in order to get to the heart of what Lulu’s previous portrayers brought to the character, the actress explained that she turned to executive producer Frank Valentini, the show’s writers and castmates, and most importantly, the fans.
They went back to Lulu’s core traits

The General Hospital star explained, “I went on message boards everywhere across the world to see what they liked about Lulu.” Not only did she read what was being talked about, but she also actively engaged the viewers to pick their brains about what they hoped for in Lulu’s return. “I would even ask long-term fans, ‘What are you missing about Lulu?’ ” she stated.
Havins further noted that her instructions from the powers that be were to “Make the role my own.” However, she was caught in a dichotomy because she also felt, “It was important to me to make sure I honored who she is.” In doing so, Havins explained, “We really went back to the core: She’s strong-willed and feisty and jumps before she thinks.”
And now that she’s working as a journalist again, Lulu’s tenacity will come into play. The fans are loving her performance as the beloved daughter of the legendary Luke and Laura (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis), and so are we! (Find out about Lulu’s great awakening.)
