Patricia Crowley, known to ABC soap opera fans for her turn as matriarch Mary Scanlon Collins on Port Charles, the General Hospital spinoff, has died at the age of 91. Like nearly all characters from the half-hour soap, Crowley brought her character to the main show. She appeared on GH in 1997.

"My dearest friend Pat is gone but never to be forgotten," Wendy Riche, former executive producer of both GH and PC, recalled on Facebook "rest in peace dear one."
Crowley, who was born in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, died on September 14, just a few days shy of her 92nd birthday (September 17). Her early credits include the role of Sally Carver in the 1953 film Forever Female, which starred Ginger Rogers and William Holden. Crowley had a starring role opposite Tony Curtis in The Square Jungle in 1955.
The actress is known to prime time TV viewers for her role as Joan Nash in Please Don't Eat the Daisies, based on the book by Jean Kerr. She starred opposite Lloyd Bridges on the nighttime police drama, Joe Forrester. She also appeared on The Dean Martin Show as a singer and dancer.
The actress appeared regularly as a guest star on such nighttime series as Charlie's Angels, Columbo, Police Woman, The Streets of San Francisco, Hotel, and Murder, She Wrote.
After doing a few episodes of Falcon Crest in 1984, Crowley landed the recurring role of Emily Fallmont on Dynasty two years later. The actress's next soap opera came in 1989 when she took on the role of Rebecca Whitmore on the ground-breaking series Generations.
General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, Friends, and more
Almost a decade later, she became an original cast member of Port Charles, the General Hospital spinoff, in which she played Mary Scanlon, mother to medical intern Joe Scanlon (Michael Dietz; David Gail; Alex Mendoza) and paramedic Frank Scanlon (Jay Pickett).
Crowley's last soap role was on The Bold and the Beautiful, on which she played Natalie DeWitt, mother to Morgan (Sarah Buxton) in 2005.
The actress also appeared on Friends opposite John Bennett Perry, the real-life dad of the late Matthew Perry (Chandler).
Crowley is survived by her husband, Andy Friendly, a producer, writer, director, and programming executive, and two children, Jon Hookstratten and Ann Hookstratten Osher, from her first marriage. Crowley was preceded in death by her sister, actress Ann Crowley, who died in 2023.
