Things are getting worse for General Hospital’s Drew (Cameron Mathison). Or is it that things are getting worse for everyone around him? Nicknamed Congressman Cutthroat by the media, Drew has been causing all kinds of trouble, giving everyone in Port Charles major anxiety. Mathison’s character has changed so much that a fan even threw an apple at his head because she was mad at what Drew has been doing. But there’s no need to worry because Mathison has a method for curbing your anxiety, and his followers were all over it. (Learn about Drew's most dastardly deed yet.)
Find your creativity
Over on Instagram, General Hospital star Cameron Mathison wrote, “Feeling anxious? Try shifting into creativity.” He explained, “When creativity is activated, research shows anxiety takes a backseat. Whether it’s writing, singing, rearranging your space, or simply trying something new, engaging in creative action can help quiet the mind. Next time anxiety creeps in, ask yourself—what can I create right now?”
Attached to the post was a video in which the actor elaborated further on his concept, stating that meditation was a great way to lessen one’s anxiety and stress. However, if a person’s not into that, for whatever reason, he offered another solution. “A study shows that the opposite of anxiety is creativity,” he stated, adding, “If you look at the two parts of the brain, when one is switched on, the other is automatically switched off, meaning when creativity is switched on in the brain, anxiety switches off. Your creativity could be a lot of different things. It could be writing or singing. It could be making something new. It could be walking a different road for the first time. It could even be rearranging your furniture in your place.”
What can you be making right now?

The General Hospital actor noted that one doesn’t necessarily have to be skilled at arts and crafts to find their creativity. His method was very simple: “Instead of sitting there and dwelling and thinking about things that are making you anxious, just ask yourself, ‘What can I be making right now?’ As you start to do something creative, even if it's not something you feel like doing, focusing on that action, on that creativity will flatline your anxiety.”
“So give it a try next time you're feeling worried or anxious,” he concluded. Co-star Katelyn MacMullen, who plays Drew’s love interest, Willow, responded with applause emojis, and Mathison sent hearts back as a reply. Finola Hughes (Anna) wrote, “Love this,” while Kin Shriner (Scotty) commented, “Great point.” (Find out why Scotty needs to return to GH.)
The fans really loved his inspirational words, with @meezaniam responding, “Great advice and very timely for me. I will give the creative angle a try. Thank you for always lifting me up!” That was one of the many who responded and claimed they would give Mathison’s suggestion a try.
