King sidelined by emergency surgery

General Hospital star Ted King (Lorenzo Alcazar) is recuperating for what is being called "emergency throat surgery." Though the actor was forced to miss a handful of episodes, a show spokesperson reports that King is already back at work.

"He is recuperating nicely and we wish him a full and speedy recovery," a General Hospital spokesperson said in a statement.

"[Ted] is indeed recovering from emergency throat surgery. He is healing very well and is in good spirits," said a spokesperson for King's official online fan club. "He was off work for three days, but began taping again this morning. He has heavy story coming up and did not want any of you to be disappointed by his not being there. You will notice a 'raspiness' in his voice while he continues to heal."

Former Port Charles star Jay Pickett (ex-Frank Scanlon) stepped in temporarily as an emergency recast for King. Pickett will air from March 24th through March 27th.

This marks the second time in about four months that the ABC soap has been forced to scramble for an emergency recast. In November 2005, Chris Beetem (ex-Jordan, As the World Turns) briefly assumed the role of Nikolas Cassadine when Tyler Christopher broke his arm and required surgery. Beetem appeared on GH for about a week.

Meanwhile, King will return to on-screen action on March 28th.
