Ryan Carnes reprising role as Lucas Jones

Lucas Jones is headed back to Port Charles -- and a familiar actor will be reprising the role. Lucas was last seen on-screen in 2006, but of late the character has been mentioned quite frequently.

With all of the recent mentions, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Lucas Jones is headed back to Port Charles. In fact, speculation that Lucas was on his way home started way back in March when Lucas' adopted mom, Bobbie, mentioned that he was living in Seattle and yet to find the right man to marry before the scene then cut to closeup of Felix.

However, what fans didn't know is when Lucas would return and who'd be playing the role. At least one of those questions has now been answered. Ryan Carnes will reprise the role of Lucas, the adopted son of Bobbie Spencer and Tony Jones -- and the biological son of Julian Jerome and Cheryl Stansbury.

General Hospital's executive producer, Frank Valentini, confirmed Carnes' return to Soaps In Depth.

"Yes, he's coming back," Valentini told the magazine. "I got to meet him the other day. I like him a lot."

Earlier this month, Carnes mad a cryptic post on Twitter that, in retrospect, could be seen as a possible hint to fans about his next gig.

"Like a ship lost in the night at sea, wondering where my next port will be..." Carnes wrote, with a possible allusion to Port Charles.

This will mark Carnes' return to General Hospital. The actor previously appeared on GH from 2004 to 2005. The actor's exit from GH came around the time that Lucas was revealed to be gay -- and Internet rumors swirled that the actor bowed out because he didn't want to play a gay character.

"Ryan is probably the last one who'd have a problem playing a gay character," Carnes' rep told Soap Central at the time. "He's done it twice, so he's very happy and very comfortable with it."

In fact, Carnes appeared as Andrew Van de Kamp's boyfriend on Desperate Housewives and he locked lips with openly gay American Idol finalist Jim Verraros in the independent film Eating Out.

Since leaving General Hospital, Carnes has made a handful of primetime appearances including spots on CSI, Bones, and Rizzoli & Isles. He's also appeared in several feature films.

Carnes is not the most recent actor to play Lucas. Ben Hogestyn, the son of Days of our Lives star Drake Hogestyn, took over after Carnes' exit and remained with the show through June 2006.

There's no word yet on when Carnes will first air.
