Sean Kanan leaving GH, headed back to B&B

Without the love story that he wanted, a disappointed Sean Kanan will be wrapping up his role as General Hospital's A.J. Quartermaine by month's end. The actor won't be idle long because he's headed back to The Bold and the Beautiful to reprise the role of Deacon Sharpe.

It may not come as the biggest surprise considering the current condition of his on-screen alter ego, but Sean Kanan (A.J. Quartermaine) has confirmed that his time at General Hospital is just about up.

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine's Michael Logan, Kanan expressed mixed emotions about the 18 months he spent back in Port Charles.

"I was utterly thrilled to be brought back to GH for the 50th anniversary and really enjoyed working with [executive producer] Frank Valentini, but I was not over the moon about the writing," Kanan said. "Doing stories about panic attacks and relish was not what I thought I'd signed up for. I feel I brought everything I could to the character yet it was obvious they weren't going to give me a great love story, which I found very disappointing."

Kanan will continue working at GH through March 28, and he'll air through mid-April.

When Kanan wraps things at General Hospital, he'll be headed "home" to The Bold and the Beautiful. Kanan revealed that when he learned that his GH time was just about up, he reached out to The Bold and the Beautiful's executive producer/head writer Bradley Bell. In turn, Bell quickly offered Kanan a contract.

Kanan first appeared as Deacon Sharpe in November 2000. He remained with the show for five years before exiting. When Kanan stepped back into Deacon's shoes in 2009, it wasn't as part of the B&B cast -- it was on the show's sister soap, The Young and the Restless. Over the next three years, Kanan crossed back and forth between the two shows. His most recent appearance as Deacon was in October 2012 on The Bold and the Beautiful.

"Deacon is my favorite of all the characters I've played," Kanan told TV Guide. "I started my career in daytime on GH but returning to B&B feels like I'm going home."

Kanan reports to work at B&B in mid-April, with his on-screen return scheduled to air June 13.
