Port Charles and Prince Charles have more than just the "Charles" in common. The General Hospital town and British heir to the throne also share a connection to Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle.

It has been one hell of an exciting week for General Hospital fans. Not only are viewers of the ABC soap opera enjoying the show's extravagant Nurses Ball, but they're also (perhaps unwittingly) connected to the wedding between Great Britain's Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle happening this weekend. How, you might ask?

As Soap Central previously reported, Meghan Markle had a brief stint on GH long before she landed the role of Rachel on Suits and even longer before she landed Prince Charles's son -- one of the most eligible bachelors on earth -- as her future hubby. As we described, she played the role of Nurse Jill during the crazy Brenda/Sonny/Jax/Alcazar storyline in 2002. However, the plot thickens.

As it turns out, the California native's father, Thomas Markle -- who has made headline news recently for being unable to attend his daughter's royal wedding due to health issues -- also has a connection to GH: he has worked on the show many times as a lighting director, even earning a Daytime Emmy Award win for his work on the ABC series in 2011. His other lighting credits, according to IMDb, include Santa Barbara, The Facts of Life, and Married... with Children.

Believe it or not, the Markles aren't the only connection GH has to the royal family. As Soap Central reported last year, Queen Elizabeth honored U.K. native Emma Samms (ex-Holly Sutton) for her work with Starlight Children's Foundation, an organization that brings hospital entertainment and wishes to seriously and terminally ill children.

How do you feel about Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle's connection to GH? Are you finding yourself swept away by the royal wedding, or are soap opera weddings your only cup of matrimonial tea?
