ABC executive Nathan Varni has parted ways with General Hospital and is no longer overseeing the network's sole soap opera.

Over the Easter weekend, ABC executive Nathan Varni announced that his working relationship with General Hospital has come to an end.

"I share bittersweet news that I am no longer overseeing General Hospital for ABC's programming department," he shares on Twitter. "I was with the show for seven years, covering more than 2,000 of its record-breaking 14,600+ episodes. In that time, I've had the pleasure of meeting many of you in person and loved interacting with even more of you online."

He continues, "I have learned so much from you all and can't accurately describe how much I appreciate and admire your collective loyalty to the show. Thank you for your interest, kindness, and spirited opinions on the direction of stories. I hope you will continue watching and enjoying the show for decades to come."

Varni also offers his "love and deepest gratitude to GH's incredible cast, writers, producers, directors, and production staff. They are truly the best in the business and their love of the genre makes my heart full."

Though Varni is moving on from GH, he will continue the day-to-day oversight of other ABC series, including Grey's Anatomy, The Conners, and The Baker and the Beauty (a new show that debuts on Monday, April 13).

Neither GH nor Varni has commented on whether or not the network plans to name a replacement for Varni or if the position has been abolished. At the moment, GH is on an unplanned hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The series has been airing throwback episodes once per week in order to extend its run of fresh content filmed before the unscheduled break.
