Why Mac's BBQ will be a significant event on General Hospital

On General Hospital last week, Felicia (Kristina Wagner) invited Cody (Josh Kelly) to a barbecue at her and Mac's (John J. York) house. We all know this will be significant, since soap writers love to use special gatherings as the setting for explosive secrets to come to light. Perhaps the barbecue is where Molly will find out that Kristina has been hiring Cody to seduce Ava (Maura West).

What happened on General Hospital

When we last saw Felicia on General Hospital, she invited Cody to the barbecue and mentioned that Mac had also asked a lot of other people from Port Charles. Cody agreed to attend, but when he learned that she had invited Molly (Kristen Vaganos), he changed his mind because he thought Molly was angry at him. By the end of the conversation, though, Felicia was able to convince Cody to come after all.

The past few months, the GH writers have been teasing a romance between Cody and Molly. We've been getting a nice, slow burn between them, but Kristina's arrangement with Cody has messed everything up for Molly. It would have been nice if Cody had the backbone to turn down Kristina's offer and ask Molly out. But because he has a con-man past, he has a hard time saying no to big, fat wads of cash.

How does Cody really feel about Ava?

Apparently, Tracy (Jane Elliot) got through to Cody this week and helped him to realize his self-worth, since he canceled his date with Ava at the last minute. Is he thinking about backing out of his arrangement with Kristina after all? He did admit to Tracy that he enjoys spending time with Ava. Is he actually developing genuine feelings for her? Are we headed for a triangle with Cody, Molly, and Ava?

It doesn't feel like it for a couple of reasons. First, the writers have spent the past few months developing Cody's friendship with Molly. That tells us it must be leading to something more. Second, it feels like Ava is only turning to Cody as a distraction from Ric because Ric can't take his eyes off Liz (Rebecca Herbst) whenever he's out with Ava. She likes that Cody is "uncomplicated," as she told Nina (Cynthia Watros).

So how will everything play out at the barbecue?

What significant occurrence will happen at the barbecue that will lead to Molly discovering the truth about Cody's arrangement with Kristina? Maybe Alexis and Kristina will also be invited, and Molly will overhear them talking about Kristina's plan? And if that happens, how will Molly react? Will she raise her voice to Cody and make a scene in front of the other guests? If she does, then Mac will also learn the truth about his son's involvement in Kristina's plan, and he surely won't be happy. Mac has been encouraging Cody to move away from his grifter past and make a better future for himself. He would be disappointed if he learned that Cody is falling back into old habits.

Ava may not be at the barbecue since the Scorpios are not close friends with her. But what if unforeseen circumstances prompt her to attend? Felicia works at the hospital, so she may invite Portia (Brook Kerr), who may invite her daughter Trina (Tabyana Ali). Trina is friends with Ava, so she could invite Ava. If Ava shows up at the party and Molly learns the truth and causes a scene, Ava would be furious to know that Kristina cooked up that seduction plan. And what would happen if Ava found out that Alexis had known about it all along? It just might cause Ava to back out of the deal she made with Alexis.

Whatever happens, we always enjoy seeing Mac, and it looks like we're in store for plenty of drama at his upcoming barbecue — and, unfortunately, more heartache for Molly.
