It looks like that special Luke and Laura reunion at the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmys was just the beginning: Genie Francis will return to General Hospital in her Emmy-winning role as Laura Spencer.
"Genie is a part of our GH family and the door has always been open for her to return when the timing and story are right. Lucky for us, the stars have aligned and we are thrilled to welcome Genie back home," executive producer Frank Valentini said in a statement."
It's been two years since Francis last appeared on the long-running ABC soap to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary. She assumed the role of Laura Vining in 1976. Despite that lengthy career as one of daytime's most iconic characters, Francis has just two Daytime Emmy nominations. In 2007, she received a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Francis last appeared on GH back in 2013, when Laura married Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), who later asked for a divorce when it became clear his new wife's loyalties lay with Luke (Anthony Geary). Laura begged Scott to reconsider, but when he wouldn't, the couple split up, and she returned home to France.
Will Laura's return somehow play into Luke's long recovery process following the Fluke drama? It looks fans will have to wait and see!
There's no word yet on when Francis will appear on-screen, but a GH rep tells Soap Central that the actress will report to work "in a few weeks." As for how long she'll appear, a show source says Francis will appear for an "extended" period of time.
