New Horizons: Anthony Geary begins post-GH chapter

The curtain officially closed on General Hospital's Anthony Geary today as the veteran soap actor appeared in his final Port Charles scenes. So what's next for the eight-time Emmy winner, who's entering into the post-GH chapter of his life? Hint: there will be a lot of studying involved!

He's done all there is to do in General Hospital's Port Charles, and now Anthony Geary (ex-Luke Spencer) is headed into the next chapter of his life to try something new. But what does the future hold for the actor, who officially retired from daytime and appeared in his final GH scenes today?

For starters, Geary will be completely immersing himself in his new full-time home -- the Netherlands' capital city, Amsterdam. He's already lived in the city part-time for the past 20 years, but now he'll get to experience it as a full-time resident. "I'll be reinventing myself in a new place and [immersing myself] in a new language," the actor told The Los Angeles Times of his immediate post-GH plans.

What's more, he'll be spending a lot of time hitting books, because he decided to go back to school. "I got myself into a 10-week course at the University of Amsterdam on Dutch theater history and literature," he told TV Insider. "I've also been doing quite a bit of writing lately."

But fans of the actor being in front of the camera needn't fear. "I have not retired from acting," he reiterates. "Just GH."

As for what fans can expect to see as the next projects on Geary's IMDb list, he says to expect something as far from daytime drama as one can get: he'd like to try his hand at performing in a musical comedy as well as other comedic projects.

However, that's not to say he didn't find his three-decade run as Luke to be unsatisfying. "I have loved every minute of it. Even the minutes I have hated, I have loved," he reveals. "I made a smart move joining GH and then hanging on doggedly through the bad times, bullying my way to the top. Or the middle. Or wherever this is. I had a character that was mythic and wildly unique and the best they had to offer in television. I am really, really fortunate."
