To say that ABC soap opera fans are dying to have Rebecca Budig back on General Hospital would be an understatement. Ever since her Port Charles alter ego, Hayden Barnes, left the canvas last September, they've been restlessly waiting for her return. After all, her final scenes left the door wide open for Budig's next go-around on the show: Hayden was seen writing a letter to Finn (Michael Easton), apologizing for leaving him at the altar. And while she claimed to have miscarried their baby, she was seen very much pregnant. So, will Budig's Hayden return to Port Charles and let Finn know he's a daddy?
"I think it's definitely a possibility," ABC executive Nathan Varni revealed in a recent interview. "As you know, we left Hayden telling Finn she lost the baby but the reality of the situation was that she did not lose the baby. So I think with that cliffhanger, there's definitely room to perhaps one day play that again."
However, fans shouldn't hold out hope for that storyline happening anytime soon.
"I think the writers did a good job of kind of tying that story up and leaving a lot to be desired and that could be a potential obstacle down the road for Finn and kind of a big surprise. So we'll have to see," Varni shares. "But I think it'll be a while as we're not quite yet to that point where we're ready to return Hayden to the canvas."
Budig's first daytime role was playing Michelle Bauer on the CBS soap opera Guiding Light. Her true claim to fame, however, was her role as All My Children's Greenlee Smythe.
