General Hospital was forced to air repeats for most of the summer, and it seems the ABC soap opera is making up for the loss of new episodes by doubling the drama in the weeks ahead!
In a fall preview given to Soap Opera Digest, head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor reveal, "Mike's [Max Gail] deteriorating condition takes a great emotional toll on Sonny [Maurice Benard] and really demands a lot of his attention, which means that people like Carly [Laura Wright] and Jason [Steve Burton] will have to step up to deal with other matters that unfold."
Meanwhile, "Circumstances lead to Carly sharing a massive secret with Jax [Ingo Rademacher], which could cause tension between the once-married couple, as well as [in their relationships with] Nina [Cynthia Watros] and Sonny."
Another GH couple that will be facing upheaval is Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Franco (Roger Howarth). Tease GH's writers, "Their marriage had a rift in it thanks to Elizabeth's growing closeness to Nikolas [Marcus Coloma] and Franco's growing closeness to Ava [Maura West]. However, both Elizabeth and Franco have started to suspect that this new closeness may have been manipulated by a third party. Will Elizabeth and Franco bring that to each other's attention?"
A third party will also cause potential doom and gloom for Anna (Finola Hughes). "The hard-won stability that Anna has achieved for her family, specifically Peter [Wes Ramsey], will be cast into doubt when they get a blast from their shared past," the writers share. "And of course, Finn [Michael Easton] will feel anything that causes stress for Anna."
While relationship drama is definitely something that keeps viewers glued to their screens, it wouldn't be GH without some kind of danger looming, and the show's writers have something in store that has the power to threaten everyone on the canvas: Cyrus (Jeff Kober) being in charge of the hospital.
"Cyrus may have taken over, but he knows that he does not have the support of the rank and file. Anyone who works at GH, their job is not necessarily safe," the writers preview. "And if the hospital is not safe, then who in Port Charles is?"
