Part two of a two-part look back at the events of the past year in Springfield. This week, our columnist discusses the worst that Guiding Light had to offer in 2006.
Guiding Light
January 8, 2007
New Year's is always a time to make resolutions, even if you don't end up keeping them. This year, which is an important one in Guiding Light's history, is no exception. Most shows talk about giving back, but Guiding Light will actually be doing just that.
Tom Pelphrey
January 15, 2007
Sarah Randall is only a few months old, but she controls the fate of so many Springfield residents. Without speaking a word, her very presence is making her family members act out of sheer desperation to keep her little pink cheeks in their lives.
Kim Zimmer
January 22, 2007
After complaining about not having any romance in Springfield, last week we were rewarded with a romantic wedding of two star-crossed lovers. Whether you were a fan of the couple or not, you had to appreciate all that they have had to overcome to be together.
Tom Pelphrey

Tammy died last week, and now it's time to deal with the fallout of her death. The story will certainly end on a dramatic note; Tammy's scenes in Cedar's with Cassie and Jonathan were full of emotional impact.
Ron Raines
February 5, 2007
Alan has committed his worst sin to date, but will he pay for his crimes, or will he get away with this one, too?
Ricky Paull Goldin
February 12, 2007
It looks like the walls are about to cave in on Harley and Gus's adoption of Sydney. What a way to find out what your daughter is really like! Once the smoke clears, how will she react to Gus's protection of her daughter, and what it might have cost them?
Ron Raines
February 19, 2007
Nearly everyone in Springfield would like to see Alan pay for some crime against their family, so the biggest question right now is...who shot Alan?
Tina Sloan
February 26, 2007
The fight for power on the hill will be an interesting one for the ladies of the mansion. Doris is so uptight, and Ashlee just wants to give a group hug to a group of vultures. No wonder Lizzie, Alan-Michael, and Phillip turned out like they did.
Bradley Cole
March 5, 2007
When a shooting victim is as hated as Alan Spaulding, pretty much any one can be a suspect. The Springfield Police keep eliminating suspects, but are they sure they have the whole story?
Beth Ehlers
March 12, 2007
Hopefully, Reva and Harley can learn to peacefully coexist when it comes to Daisy's welfare. It's probably difficult to not meddle when you want to so badly, but Reva needs to work with and not against Harley.
Beth Chamberlin
March 19, 2007
Beth is so desperate to hold onto her Spaulding title that she's ready to cast aside her twenty-year friendship with Rick to try to get pregnant. Has she forgotten that Rick is sterile? Guess it's on to Plan B...or is that Plan A(lan)-M(ichael)?
Marcy Rylan
March 26, 2007
For every step forward that Lizzie takes, she seems to take two backwards. Of course, Daisy has a loving family to rely on, and Lizzie has the barracudas in Casa Spaulding to look to for love. Maybe these two could learn something from one another.
Kim Zimmer
April 2, 2007
Josh is on his way to jail, which will definitely be a big wake-up call for the upstanding citizen. Can Cassie, Reva, and Billy get him out soon? Let's hope so, since Harley's incarceration for shooting Phillip was drawn out for way too long.
Ron Raines
April 9, 2007
WOW! Alan woke up as a whole new man! Stop the presses! Will this new version of Alan be a pillar of Springfield's community, or just a way to mask his old, evil ways?
Beth Chamberlin
April 16, 2007
In Beth's desperate attempts to get pregnant, she hasn't thought about Lizzie, who just lost a child. It just shows how out of touch she is. Beth and Rick are so different now, and the show will totally ruin their friendship with this stupid love triangle.
Gina Tognoni
April 23, 2007
Dinah's betrayal of her mother, on top of Matt's loss of their money, means that Vanessa is without any family when she needs them the most. All of what she and her father Henry built up is gone.
Ricky Paull Goldin
April 30, 2007
What happened to the sweet Susan from a few years ago? She had Gus wrapped around her little finger, but now that her secret is out, she's fighting mad and playing dirty.
Ron Raines
May 7, 2007
It looks like Alan not only got away with murder (literally), but he's already back to his old tricks, too. He really should wake up and realize that Lizzie is a little too attentive to the new baby coming to the Spaulding Mansion.
Crystal Chappell
May 14, 2007
Poor Buzz deserves the love of a good woman, but not someone as flighty as Olivia. The normally level-headed corporate dynamo has a romantic track record worthy of Hollywood. She had made bad choices in the past, but Buzz was a keeper.
Beth Chamberlin
May 21, 2007
It seems that things are about to get even more spicy with Josh/Cassie/Reva and Beth/Alan/Rick. Hopefully someone realizes that Alan has to be the daddy before the baby is born.
Gina Tognoni
May 28, 2007
What exactly is Mallet hiding? When he nearly strangled Dinah last week, it was pretty shocking. Blake's presence in their lives is so odd; she needs to interact with more of Springfield.
Beth Ehlers
June 4, 2007
Once Gus knows about his son, and Natalia's life without him, how will he and Harley be able to weather the storm? Daisy's crush on Rafe will certainly pose all kinds of obstacles for the duo.
Kim Zimmer
June 11, 2007
How do you explain the civility of people who do such terrible things to one another? In the case of the Lewis and Shayne clans, how can they ever get past the fact that Cassie is now with Josh, even though Reva wants to be with him?
Guiding Light
June 18, 2007
For fans of Guiding Light, this year's Daytime Emmys held some disappointments, but also a few welcome surprises.
Tom Pelphrey
June 25, 2007
Reva and Lizzie's lost weekend will soon become clearer, but one has to wonder how long Reva can keep the fact that Jonathan and Sarah are alive from Alan and Lizzie.
Bradley Cole
July 2, 2007
Obviously, the residents of Springfield don't really believe that honesty is the best policy. Just how many secrets are being kept right now?
Tina Sloan
July 9, 2007
The prospect of seeing Lillian with Buzz is exciting. Lillian is one of those characters who makes you recall the way the show was with Bert Bauer all those years ago...if you can put aside the fact that Lillian had a role in Maureen's death, that is.
Bradley Cole
July 16, 2007
It was fun to see Jeffrey and Reva get together last week. Jeffrey and Olivia are hard to accept as a couple, but with Reva, the friends-with-benefits relationship suits them both. At least it will give both characters some story.
Guiding Light
July 23, 2007
Springfield might get the reputation of being the loneliest town in the country, the way that its residents are going. It seems that most people are at odds, or looking to cause trouble.
Ron Raines
July 30, 2007
Alan never seems to get tired of meddling in the lives of his family members. He's clearly a man who hasn't learned from his past mistakes, which generally leaves him all alone and miserable.
Bradley Cole
August 6, 2007
Olivia and Reva have taken warfare to an art form. They've battled for years over the men in Springfield, and are again doing battle over Jeffrey O'Neill. Now Olivia is ready to throw her own nephew to the wolves for a chance at happiness.
Tina Sloan
August 13, 2007
Where is Blake? For someone who is supposed to be recuperating, she seems to be left alone a lot. Maybe Lillian, who put in a brief appearance for her date with Buzz, is caring for her.
Kim Zimmer
August 20, 2007
We knew that Josh and Cassie's wedding would not go off without a hitch. Reva would have to do something to steal the show...and, of course, she did. But did she mean to kill two birds with one stone?
Ricky Paull Goldin
August 27, 2007
Gus moved out last week, and Harley was right to rail on him for heading to the Spaulding Mansion. Yes, Gus is a Spaulding, but Harley has no love for anyone in the Spaulding house. Moving into that viper pit was a very bad move.
Guiding Light

Dinah's antics with Cyrus seem to suggest that she's getting ready to have some serious issues with Mallet. Her medical bills, in addition to her illness, are adding a lot of stress to their relationship.
Beth Ehlers
September 24, 2007
Can't Alan find happiness with someone that his son's aren't interested in? At least we know that Harley is safe from Alan's advances!
Tom Pelphrey
October 1, 2007
Just when you thought that Alan and Alex were cold, heartless billionaires, you learn that they are actually cold, heartless billionaires who really care about each other! Who would have thunk it?
Kim Zimmer
October 8, 2007
Reva and Alan's victim is Zeke Cross; his daughter Aubrey is Jonathan's new girlfriend. Zeke was the sheriff of Tourmaline, and an abusive father/husband. Now Aubrey, Jonathan, and baby Sarah are on the run. Will this whole story wrap up eventually?
Ricky Paull Goldin
October 15, 2007
First Gus wants to comfort Harley, and then we see him mashing Natalia against a prop wall so hard it nearly breaks trying to rekindle the past with her. What gives? Can't he be alone for a few minutes without kissing the next female he sees?
Guiding Light
October 22, 2007
After dragging some stories on for ages, the heat really got turned up last week on several fronts, as we near the November sweeps period.
Beth Chamberlin
October 29, 2007
The shows last week included some citizens who had been missed; hopefully we'll see more of them as we go forward. Beth and Rick's baby should arrive soon, which means we should see them more often.
Ron Raines
November 5, 2007
Springfield has become a meat market, with partners changing at the blink of an eye. Alan is juggling Natalia, Beth, and Olivia. Now he's using his wacko son Phillip to keep the ladies from his son's life closer to him.
Guiding Light
November 12, 2007
As the writers' strike continues, questions loom about what it could mean for the future of Guiding Light, and the future of daytime in general.
Bradley Cole
November 19, 2007
The Lewis family has a new addition (Will) and an un-welcomed one (Edmund). Josh is getting ready to pursue his dreams, unless Edmund's blackmail attempts work. Jeffrey and Reva have to be careful that their destination for the holiday isn't known.
Kim Zimmer
November 26, 2007
With all of the unhappiness in Springfield, what do we have to be thankful for? It looks like Edmund is up to his old tricks, but he might be making too many enemies too fast. Will Jeffrey or Roc be able to neutralize the threat?
Crystal Chappell
December 3, 2007
Olivia learned last week that her own life could be short. A heart condition has her waiting for a transplant; she wants to fight to be there for her little girl, which is a plea that everyone can certainly understand, whether they have children or not.
Ricky Paull Goldin
December 10, 2007
At Cedar's last week, it was more than a little shocking to see Gus pull the Spaulding card in order to get Olivia on the transplant list. Not very in-character for the son who wants to be nothing like Alan.
Ron Raines
December 17, 2007
With all of the latest backstabbing and deceit in town, it would be interesting to see Doris and Bill Lewis adopt young Will and take over Springfield. Let those three loose on the town and it won't resemble the one we see today. Even Alan would be scared!
Guiding Light
December 24, 2007
Tis the season to be jolly, but there is little cheer in Springfield. When families and friends unite to spend time together, this Christmas might be one that Scrooge himself would enjoy.
Tom Pelphrey
December 31, 2007
Part one of a two-part look back at the events of the past year in Springfield. This week, our columnist discusses the best that Guiding Light had to offer in 2007.
