Legendary GL casting director dead at 82

According to GL's website, legendary GL casting director, Betty Rea died in Los Angeles December 23rd. The 82 year old Soap Opera Hall of Fame Inductee's cause of death was listed as respiratory failure.

Among her MANY notable "finds" in the industry are: Kevin Bacon (ex-Tim Werner), Margaret Colin (ex-Margo, ATWT, wife of GL star Justin Deas (Buzz) and currently on CBS' Now and Again), Nia Long (ex-Kat), Melina Kanakaredes (ex-Eleni), Meg Ryan (ex-Betsy, ATWT) and Sherry Stringfield (ex-Blake).

Rea was the 1995 recipient of the Casting Society of America (CSA's) Hoyt Bowers Award, and the SOD Editor's award in 1994.

A memorial service in New York will be held on Monday, January 31st at 7:00pm at Second Stage Theatre, 307 West 43rd Street, NY. Longtime GL fans will remember her many contributions to the show. She will live on in the talented performers she found and the performances that touched our lives.
