Alexis Garcia, a 24-year-old missing UNH student who also has ties to the U.S. The Navy and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps has not been seen for nearly a week. His disappearance has sparked concern in the community, prompting Durham Police to issue a plea for information on his whereabouts.
Garcia was last seen on November 21, 2024, by friends at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). In a Facebook post, a concerned parent of a friend said:
“This is a cadet in Madeline’s squad. She and her friends were one of the last to speak to him on Thursday at UNH and understandably very upset about this all. Praying he is found safe.”
Missing UNH student Alex Garcia's car was found abandoned on November 26
In a press release, Durham Police said the missing UNH student Alex Garcia last spoke with friends who were the last to see him on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Garcia’s car, a black 2021 Mercedes, was located at the Scammell Bridge rest area, located off Route 4, Durham.
Police revealed the car was abandoned at the location on Saturday, November 23, and was found on Tuesday, November 26.
The missing UNH student, originally from Illinois, was described as a 5’9” tall male, with brown hair and brown eyes. Police urged the public to share and amplify the message about his disappearance. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts was urged to contact authorities. Police said:
“Please see the information shared by the Durham, New Hampshire, Police Department regarding a missing off-campus student, Alexis Garcia. The last known contact was on November 21, 2024. Reach out to the Durham Police Department with any information.”
Police said they do not suspect foul play in the missing UNH student’s disappearance.
The case has sparked concern in the community. A social media user wrote on Facebook:
“Prayers he is found safe, especially with his military background. I wish this country did more for people who serve, especially mental health wise.”
Alex Garcia’s disappearance comes two years after another student was reported missing from UNH and was later found dead. In 2021, missing UNH student Vincenzo Lirosi was found dead near the school’s Durham, N.H., campus in a marshy area off Coe Drive. Lirosi was found dead after a night out partying.
According to CBS, the cause of death was listed as drowning and acute intoxication. At the time the mother of the Lirosi Sued UNH and Sigma Chi Fraternity for overserving her son.
