Cameron John Wagenius has been linked to hacking and stealing of Trump and Harris' phone records
The unsealed indictment did not provide any specifics on the victims or the activity done by Cameron John Wagenius. However, American cybercrime journalist Brian Krebs shared via his blog at KrebsOnSecurity.com that the arrest has been made in connection to the alleged hacking and stealing of 2024 Presidential Candidates – Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
Wagenius is suspected of using the online alias Kiberphant0m. For the unversed, the cybercriminal is said to have been involved in high-profile data breaches in 2024. Kiberphant0m had previously claimed to have stolen confidential information from telecom companies, including AT&T and Verizon. The hacker made such claims via Telegram in 2024.
In October 2024, a Canadian hacker, Connor Riley Moucka (Judische), was arrested in connection with the Snowflake data breach and extortion involving more than 160 firms. Following his arrest, Kiberphant0m's name popped up. Judische had reportedly outsourced the sale of stolen databases to Kiberphant0m. Those firms' data was outsourced who had reportedly refused to pay the ransom.
Following Moucka's arrest, Kiberphant0m made a move by threatening to leak the stolen data by seemingly advertising it via BreachForums. In his threat, the hacker claimed to have their hands on Trump and Harris's AT&T call logs. Following the threats and advertisements, Brian Krebs published a blog predicting the potential identity of Kiberphant0m to be a US Soldier posted in South Korea.
After Cameron John Wagenius was arrested, the American investigative journalist even reached out to the soldier's mother, who seemingly confirmed his connection to the Snowflake breach.
The arrest was made on December 20 in Fort Cavazos, Texas. The case is being handled in Seattle, where Wagenius will be extradited.
