What happened to Aviv Broek? Memphis Police identify Israeli locksmith shot and killed after being lured by fake service call

The mysterious murder of Aviv Broek has raised concern among the Jewish community in the US. Broek, an Israeli locksmith was lured with a call for work and was later robbed and murdered. The incident took place in the 2300 block of Hernando Road, Memphis.

Broek, 21, worked as a locksmith in Tennessee. According to the New York Post, he received a phone call for a job last week. When he arrived at the address shared by the client, he became unreachable for two hours. As his friend went out to search for him, he found Broek's body shot outside his car, per Israel National News. He was shot four times in the stomach.

While it seemed to be a murder, it was later discovered that the attacker also stole Aviv Broek's work equipment worth thousands of dollars. The murderer also took his cash and passport.

Authorities are claiming there is no indication of hate crime as they continue their investigation. However, they are pursuing all leads and locating possible suspects. No arrests in relation to the case have been made yet.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry is also aware of the murder and is examining the details.

Netizens mourn Aviv Broek's death

Netizens have been mourning Aviv Broek's tragic murder amid the scare it has caused. A Facebook user penned how Broek was a kind-hearted man.

"We are heartbroken to share the tragic loss of Aviv, a 21-year-old with a kind heart and a bright future. Aviv worked as a locksmith in Memphis, always helping others with a smile."
"May his memory be a blessing, and may the family and loved ones be comforted with all those who mourn in Jerusalem and Zion," the user added.

Several others are also sharing the link to Aviv's GoFundMe page. Broek's family intends to repatriate his body to Israel and is raising funds to cover the expenses. Out of a target of $65,000, the Broek family has already raised $63,997 from 862 donations.

Another one wrote about the donation they had made for Aviv's family. The user wrote,

Netizens also expressed how the murder is concerning and might reflect hate against Israelis and Jews. More details about the case are awaited.
