All we know about veteran journalist Gordon Mah Ung as he leaves behind a wife and two young kids
In the wake of Gordon Mah Ung's passing, a GoFundMe was launched to help his wife and the Mah family. It reveals that the veteran journalist was diagnosed with the life-threatening condition in the summer of 2023 and promptly began intensive treatment, though the ailment has no cure. The page notes that despite his "valiant efforts," he lost his life to cancer.
The GoFundMe also offers a little insight into who he was as a person:
"If you ever crossed paths with Gordon, you likely had a conversation (or read/listened to) about technology where he gave you advice on which rig (and accessories!) was right for you. Just like his podcast suggested, he was The Full Nerd when it came to all things tech, a role that he wholeheartedly assumed. Your chat was informative and sprinkled with sarcasm; and made you laugh; and he almost always found a way to weave in a Star Trek reference. Whether or not you were seeking technology advice, you also saw Gordon behind the camera-where his true kindness shined through the lens."
The page further reveals that despite having "reliable insurance," Gordon's medical bills have left the family with massive financial strain. While the goal was initially set for $25,000, it has long surpassed that, raising close to $100,000 with alms coming in from close to 700 patrons.
In the wake of his passing, PC World has compiled a long list of tributes and heartfelt statements Gordon Mah Ung's friends, colleagues, and all those who knew him have penned. Some refer to him as the "newsiest nerd," while others assert that he was the most "genuine."
His GoFundMe page is also riddled with patrons expressing their grievances at the news of his demise.
