Owen Kasozi, a 30-year-old woman, went missing after she stepped out to walk her dog on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024. A day later, on Wednesday, the woman was found deceased in Wenham Lake in Beverly, Massachusetts. Netizens have been sending their condolences to Kasozi's family, while authorities warn people to stay safe around frozen lakes.
Beverly Police Department recently shared a statement confirming the death of Kasozi. The statement revealed how Owen Kasozi was from Danvers. She was last seen on Tuesday "entering the J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve in Beverly" at approximately 3 pm.
As she did not return, the Beverly Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit, Beverly Fire Department, MSP Airwing unit, and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council carried out a search operation to find her.
According to the authorities, the 30-year-old was believed to have been walking her dog as it is a popular location among people with pets. They further suspect that she fell into Wenham Lake and failed to escape the freezing lake. Her dog was found alone in Topsfield on Wednesday night.
"No foul play is suspected at this time, however the official cause of death will be determined by an investigation to be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner," the release added.
Beverly Police Chief John G. LeLacheur and District Attorney Paul Tucker also sent their condolences to the Kasozi family, as the search's outcome did not turn out as they had hoped.
People took to Facebook to mourn the tragic death of Owen Kasozi
The tragic passing of Owen Kasozi has left people mourning. Several Facebook users mentioned how heartbreaking it must be for the family who lost a member. One wrote,

"So sorry to see this. I pray for strength for her family to come to grips with this tragic loss. My heart breaks for you," penned another.
Kasozi's family and friends have also set up a fundraiser on GoFundMe as they seek donations for her funeral. On the GoFundMe page, they wrote,
"As we navigate this unimaginable time, we are reaching out to our community to help cover the unexpected burial costs."
The family has set a target of $30,000 for the fundraiser and so far they have raised $1,320 from 19 donations. Her funeral service is scheduled for December 27, 2024.
