Elon Musk and retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman are now at loggerheads after Vindman accused the SpaceX founder of being used by Russia. As per a video shared by Catch Up on X, the retired army official said Musk had been in terms with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy since 2022.
In addition to that, he claimed that the Tesla CEO might have also shared state secrets with Putin. Alexander Vindman said,
“Russia has been using different levers whether that’s corruption networks, in this case, it’s our influencers like Donald Trump, like Elon Musk, to really kind of sow discord and it’s particularly troubling with Elon Musk in this case because Elon Musk has access to state secrets. He has top secret security clearance. It’s possible that some of that it seeping through.”
Vindman also suggested that Vladimir Putin has skillfully influenced both Donald Trump and the business tycoon, using the latter to further his objectives. He claimed that Musk's actions, such as supporting Trump and enabling disinformation through Twitter (now X), pose a direct national security concern with potential implications for elections.
Musk responded to Vindman’s comments saying he received financial support from the Ukrainian oligarchs and also alleged that he had committed ‘treason.’ The SpaceX CEO wrote,
“Vindman is on the payroll of Ukrainian oligarchs and has committed treason against the United States, for which he will pay the appropriate penalty.”
As mentioned, Alexander Vindman is a retired army official who rose to fame during Trump’s initial impeachment. He was born in 1975 in Ukraine and till 2020, he served as the public servant in the National Security Council which was responsible for Russian and Ukrainian policy.
Alexander Vindman said Elon Musk’s claims were false and unfounded
Responding to Elon Musk’s statement, Alexander Vindman took to X on November 28, 2024, and wrote that the SpaceX CEO’s claims had no specific details and thus were false and unfounded. He clarified that he has never received money from any oligarchs, Ukrainian or otherwise. Vindman then broke down his narrative by saying,
“I do run a nonprofit foundation. The http://HereRightMattersFoundatiom.org to help Ukraine defend itself from Russia’s unprovoked attack on Feb 24, 2022. I served in the military for nearly 22 years and my loyalty is to supporting the U.S. Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.”
Alexander Vindman emphasized that he reported presidential corruption through proper classified channels and testified before Congress when legally required. He accused Musk of acting with impunity and attempting to silence critics, asserting that he is not intimidated.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal published in October 2024, the Tesla CEO and Putin’s discussions have surrounded issues like business, geopolitics, and sometimes about high-ranking Russian officials like Sergei Kiriyenko.
Per The Hill, Vindman had previously warned of Trump's intent to undermine American democracy if re-elected. Elon Musk and Alexander Vindman have clashed before, notably in 2022, when Vindman criticized Musk as a "purveyor of hate and division," prompting Musk to label him "both puppet & puppeteer."
