When it comes to superheroes, Anthony Mackie knows that power-ups are practically a requirement. Spider-Man got bitten by a radioactive spider, Iron Man built himself a suit, and Captain America? Well, he got injected with some top-tier super juice. But Mackie, the man now carrying the shield, doesn’t think Sam Wilson will ever take the Super Soldier serum—and that has fans feeling a lot of things.

In a recent interview, Anthony Mackie made it clear that Sam is meant to be "every man’s Captain America." His whole appeal is that he is just a regular guy who stepped up. No serum. No super strength. Just a dude with a shield and a whole lot of responsibility. But in the world of superhero movies where the impossible is the standard some fans aren’t exactly thrilled by that idea.

Anthony Mackie’s Comments on Sam Wilson Spark a Social Media Frenzy

The internet doesn’t let anything slide, and Anthony Mackie’s comments were no exception. Once his statement made the rounds, fans wasted no time in turning it into a full-blown debate. Some were all for Sam staying serum-free, while others weren’t convinced that a regular guy could (or should) stand toe-to-toe with Marvel’s heavy hitters.

Then came the Red Hulk discourse. One simple question:

“...and he can fight Red Hulk?” was enough to send fans spiraling.

Suddenly, the logic behind Sam’s superhero status was under a microscope. If he is just a normal guy, how does he survive fights against villains who could flatten a car with one punch?

And from there, the reactions got even funnier.

One fan didn’t hold back, saying:

“Seems like Anthony Mackie completely missed the point of the original Captain America.”

Another chimed in with:

“Without the serum, he can die instantly from literally anything. But alright.”

That seemed to be the biggest issue for a lot of people without superhuman abilities, how is Sam supposed to keep up?

Another frustrated commenter added:

“This is a superhero movie, no one wants to be a regular man in a superhero movie.”

There was also the inevitable dig at Sam’s previous hesitation to take up the shield, with someone writing:

“Sam Wilson also gave the shield right away. Coward.”

Then came the realism argument. Someone sarcastically pointed out:

“Not every man has a magical shield.”

Another fan simply stated:

“It also makes less sense how he's able to fight Red Hulk, and that's one of the biggest reasons why I won’t be watching.”

For them, the suspension of disbelief only stretches so far.

And, of course, there was the classic social media prophecy:

“This could age so bad.”

Because if there’s one thing the MCU loves, it’s proving fans wrong when they least expect it.

Whether you love or hate the idea of a serum-free Captain America, one thing is for sure: this debate isn’t going away anytime soon. Fans are passionate, and if Anthony Mackie’s comments have proven anything, it is that people have very strong opinions about how their superheroes should be powered.

For now, Sam Wilson remains the everyman Cap. But if he ever finds himself getting tossed around by Red Hulk like a ragdoll, don’t be surprised if the internet has plenty more to say.
