Scarlett Johansson made it very clear that she's not returning as Black Widow. Natasha had her big heroic moment in Endgame, as well as a whole solo film in 2021, so her arc is finished, sealed, and delivered.

In a latest interview with InStyle, Johansson said:

“Natasha is dead. She is dead. She's dead. Okay? They just don't want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’ Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”

But, naturally, Marvel devotees won't hear "no" for an answer.

Some fans are out here wondering if she's actually, really, 100% certain, while others are still conjuring up crazy theories on how she might return.

Meanwhile, Kevin Feige is getting strays, with people joking about him for likely trying to come up with a way to bring her back anyway.

A user (@cuddlyope) jokingly said:

"Lmao tell that to Robert Downey Jr."

If Tony Stark magically wanders back into the MCU after his heart-wrenching send-off, Natasha should get ready for a comeback tour as soon as possible.

This is what a fan thinks Kevin Feige feels about Scarlett:

"Marvel/Kevin Feige to Scarlet"

One of the fans (@ThrillaLive) who did not buy it said:

"So that confirms she’s coming back right?"

Marvel fan logic: if an actor rules out a comeback, it means for sure it is going to happen.

Another fan (@KevinSunJr) came up with a theory stating:

"Secret Wars gonna bring her back along side Steve maybe even a whole alternate avengers crew 😏 we already know another universe is gonna pop up. Calling it."

A user (@RealFrozz) humorously mentioned:

"I get the feeling that she's dead."

No way, honestly? The entire sacrificing herself for the Soul Stone thing wasn't made explicit enough?

A user (@HskrsStarsBucs) went on to ask:

"Are you sure? Is she really dead? I didn’t see a body."

Thanos threw her off a literal cliff on an alien world, but perhaps she just walked it off.

A user (@TheBIackSheep) quipped:

"That’s exactly what a spy WOULD say…"

Meanwhile, a user (@RealPeterLeo) put it as straightforward as possible:

"I mean we can't believe anything marvel actors say..."

If Marvel actors were Pinocchio, their noses would be in another universe by now.

Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow saga began in Iron Man 2 (2010), and over nine Marvel films, she made Natasha Romanoff a beloved and iconic character in the franchise.

Natasha was a key player in the MCU in films like The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Endgame.

Her most recent role as Black Widow came in the 2021 Black Widow solo movie, where the film delved into Natasha's past, checked on her troubled family life, and introduced Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, the younger generation of Black Widow.

Natasha Romanoff's on-screen demise was in Avengers: Endgame when she sacrificed herself to obtain the Soul Stone so that the Avengers could turn back the desolate destruction caused by Thanos' snap.

It was a very emotional turning point, but rumors of her return have never abated.

Numerous fans contend that Marvel has established many precedents for the return of characters through the use of alternate timelines, multiverse plot devices, or straightforward resurrections, so it is hard for them to completely rule out a return.

Nevertheless, Johansson has been extremely adamant that her time in the MCU is over.

Rather than reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff, she is currently working on new projects, such as portraying a character in the Jurassic World franchise.

She will appear in Jurassic World: Rebirth, which will be released in July 2025.
