Yes, Papa John's does offer a gluten-free pizza.

Founded in 1984, Papa John’s started in the closet of John Schnatter’s father’s tavern but quickly boomed into a fully fledged pizza chain before going public on the stock market less than ten years later. Not only that, by the late 1990s, the company had over 1500 stores across the USA and had begun expanding worldwide under John Schnatter’s guidance. While their situation has now changed and their history is marred with controversy between the company and Schnatter, Papa John's continues to be a top pizza chain across North America.

Does Papa John's have gluten-free pizza?

Yes, Papa John's offers a gluten-free pizza with a crust made from sorghum, teff, amaranth, quinoa, and other ancient grains. This offers a unique flavor compared to other gluten-free pizza options, but Papa John's doesn’t recommend it for customers with celiac disease. This is because, as per the company’s website, there could be potential cross-contamination during preparations.

This gluten-free crust is available as a 10-inch size which has come under criticism as it is smaller than the company’s normal pizza size. However, over and above that, Papa John's offers customers the chance to create their own gluten-free pizza with a variety of toppings, as they do with their regular pizzas.

About Papa John’s

Like most fast-food franchises present in the world today, Papa John’s began from humble beginnings after founder John Schnatter installed a pizza oven inside a broom closet in the back of his father’s tavern. Schnatter even sold his car to fund the purchase of the oven and things took off so well, that within a year, he had moved into a space of his own. Nine years later, the company went public on the NASDAQ and had over 1500 stores by 1997.

Things only picked up from there and as of 2023, it is the fourth-largest pizza-delivery restaurant in America and is continuing to grow. So much so, that it has over 5500 locations across 49 countries as of 2024 and is the world’s third-largest pizza delivery company. However, the company’s recent past has been mired in controversy, largely due to Schnatter’s statements. But the situation has now changed and the company’s founder now owns less than 4% of the company.
