The return of the New Balance 1000 silhouette marks the continuation of its legacy.
This time, the New Balance 1000 "Nautical Coral," also known as "Auburn," "Navy/Coral," and "Navy/Grey/Orange," combines blends modern elements with vintage influences.
Release, where to buy, price
The New Balance 1000 "Auburn" is priced at $150, to be available in select stores and on NewBalance.com in the spring of 2025.
A formal release date will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
Sneaker design
The New Balance 1000 "Nautical Coral" draws inspiration from the soft, muted tones of a seaside sunrise. Light grey mesh panels provide subtle contrast and breathability, while a navy blue base offers a classic foundation.
Peach coral accents appear on the "N" logo, the "1000" marking, and parts of the midsole, introducing a distinctive nautical element to the design. The color-blocking highlights the silhouette with light grey accents on the tongue, lining, and leather eyelet panel.
The base incorporates a light blue ripstop complemented by a "Navy" suede on the heel, toe, and mudguard, creating a smooth transition into the midsole.
The thick NB1000 features a thick midsole for comfort and a durable rubber outsole for reliable traction across various surfaces.
About the sneaker
New Balance 1000 launched the NB1000, a low-key shoe designed for runners, in 1999. But it never quite reached the same level of success. However, the 1000 is now scheduled to make a comeback after 26 years.
The larger 1000 series, which previously comprised the Steven Smith-designed 1500 and the 1980s-born 1300, doesn't quite encompass the New Balance 1000, despite its name.
The 1300 was one of New Balance's most costly, high-end running shoes at the time, and the 1500 is now a flagship model made in the UK, but the 1000 never quite had the same subtlety.
The model was seen in a 1999 New Balance running ad in early marketing materials, and catalog images suggest that it was a stability-focused shoe designed for runners who overpronate. It was also quite useful because it was available in a variety of widths, as was typical for New Balance at the time.
To be sure, though, the New Balance 1000's comeback has been far more awaited than its first release. In keeping with their recent product introductions, New Balance also seems to have assembled a solid roster of partners.
With another rumored colorway that features a pastel color scheme in keeping with a recent 1906R release, all indications also suggest that New Balance is pushing the model on the GR side of things.
Although the recently resurrected 1000 doesn't precisely meet today's running shoe standards in terms of technological specifications, it is nonetheless highly comfortable for daily use thanks to Dual-density C-Cap midsoles and ABZORB cushioning.
