The Little Rock Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that took place at the Park Plaza Mall in Little Rock, Arkansas on Black Friday sale on November 29, 2024. In an official statement, it was confirmed that three people were injured at the shooting, which occurred at 1:44 p.m.
By 2 p.m., authorities received a call about an "active aggressor" at the mall, Fox 16 reported, though it was later understood to be an isolated incident. One victim was rushed to the hospital via MEMS, while the other proceeded to another hospital in their vehicle.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. condemns the incident at Little Rock mall, says it was "unacceptable"
Mark Edwards along with the Little Rock Police Department said to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:
"I haven't heard of any fatalities. I've heard maybe a couple of non-life threatening injuries, but nothing fatal."
The LRPD officials also stated on Friday evening, as reported by ABC News:
"Initially reported as a potential active aggressor situation, officers quickly determined it was an isolated incident upon arrival."
As reported by KATV, LRPD Police Chief Heath Helton issued the following statement:
"Our officers acted swiftly to secure the scene and ensure public safety. On behalf of the Little Rock Police Department, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and victims of this senseless act, and we are relieved that the victims are expected to recover and we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable."
They revealed that the situation arose from a "disturbance" between two persons, culminating in one of them opening fire. Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. also issued a statement that same day, noting that the altercation had "jeopardized the lives" of those around them.
"The careless, senseless and criminal actions of two individuals today jeopardized the lives and safety of residents and visitors. We are praying for the victims of this incident, and are hopeful they make a full recovery," he wrote on X.
He continued:
"Gun violence is unacceptable at any time or in any place. We trust those responsible for this will be held fully accountable for their dangerous and reckless decisions. We are grateful to our law enforcement officers, first responders, mall security, and employees, and everyone who acted quickly to ensure safety and protect others."
At the time of writing, it remains unknown if anyone has been arrested. Currently, investigations into the incident are underway, and more information will be reported as and when it becomes known.
