Nike x NFL partnership officially gets a 10-year extension. This secures Nike’s position as the league’s exclusive on-field outfitter till 2038. This landmark deal continues a collaboration that began in 2012.

Nike first partnered with the National Football League over a decade ago. The global sportswear brand provided uniforms, sideline apparel, and practice gear for all 32 NFL teams.

The Nike x NFL partnership created waves in the sports gear industry multiple times: the introduction of the NFL’s Color Rush uniforms in 2015 and the incorporation of alternate helmet designs when the league updated its one helmet rule in 2022 are a few such instances.

Nike’s performance apparel and footwear have become an important part of the game. The products are designed for individual NFL athletes according to their physical demands. These products range from uniforms to sideline gear.

Below is what Nike had to mention in an official press release:

"NIKE, Inc. and the National Football League (NFL) today announced a landmark 10-year partnership extension, cementing their commitment to shaping the future of football and driving growth, innovation and progress across the sport."

It continues:

"With a relentless pursuit of innovation and a deep understanding of the unique needs of NFL players, Nike will deliver cutting-edge, high-performance products that adapt to the evolving demands of the game’s elite athletes."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell praised Nike’s contributions, stating,

“Nike has been an invaluable partner since 2012. Their innovation not only supports our athletes but also helps us grow the sport internationally and enhance player safety.”

Nike’s President and CEO, Elliott Hill, echoed Goodell's statement. He emphasized their shared commitment to football. Below is what he had to state:

“This partnership renewal is a testament to the strength and success of our collaboration with the NFL. As we embark on this new chapter, we're committed to co-creating cutting-edge solutions that meet the rapidly changing needs of NFL athletes and fans, while fueling the league's growth and development initiatives.”

Nike highlighted four specific features of this extension deal: Global Expansion, Player Health and Safety, Youth Development, and Fan Engagement.

The Nike x NFL had promised to grow football's international footprint. Below is what they had to mention:

"Nike and the NFL will work together to grow the game’s global reach, increasing participation, developing new talent and expanding the football fan base."

The other aspects that Nike had to highlight are as follows:

  • Player Health and Safety Commitment: Nike and the NFL will leverage Nike’s Sport Research Lab and product design and innovation expertise to address lower extremity injuries and enhance footwear safety.
  • Football Development: Nike will continue to empower the next generation of athletes and grow the sport by supporting grassroots, high school, and collegiate-level development programs across flag and tackle football.
  • Storytelling and Fan Engagement: The partnership will bring football’s most compelling narratives to life, connecting with fans in new and innovative ways through Nike’s unparalleled marketing and storytelling expertise.

Nike’s presence in the sportswear market extends beyond the NFL. In October, the brand secured a 12-year extension with the NBA.

For the NFL, renewing with Nike marks its interest in maintaining a partnership loved by football fans worldwide.
